Do you have special names you call your friends and family?

I have heard some people calling their friends but some other name than their real name or nickname, they will give them a name like a cartoon character name or celebrity name as a joke which may be not offending and just some sort of fun. So have you given some special names to some people that you know of or close to you. i for one like to have a special name as long as it is not offending. and will like to give one to any one close to me. i think that create some sort of fun atmosphere every time you call some one with that fun name.

I do. I call my brother things like "champ", simply because that's what he calls his dog. I tease my best friend by calling him the names his girlfriend calls him. I often have nicknames for friends, such as Frodo for a friend of mine who has an afro.

oh being called as Frodo, it does not sound good to me. was that the character in the movie The Ring.

Haha, no. Frodo was one of the main characters from The Lord Of The Rings series, which has no affiliation to The Ring.

she is a grandma already. so there is no disrespect whatsoever when she calls her grandson with a special name. i think even in other country calling folks older than you with special name is disrespectful.

Yup, I always call my friends and family with nicknames and never their real names. The reason being: I find it quicker and easier to say a nickname and also whenever I say it, it makes me laugh. So at the same time, I will be having a little fun. Some of the nicknames that I call my friends are not really to their liking, and they often hate me whenever I call them that. Some of my friends' nicknames: Nicholas Zartelli.-- Telli Andrea Sladdan--- Sladz Michael Micstar-- Mikey So yes, I often always call my names by their nicknames and the often have a nickname for me to, I kind of enjoy it.

you are good in making up nicknames . ha ha. i love those names. and it is really fun to use them. and it is boring to use the real name sometimes specially if their real name sounds so formal. we want it make it sound more friendly .

it actually depends on the people you're with. some persons don't like the idea of other people giving them names. if you like to do it then there should be a silent agreement between both you and the other to avoid any conflict. and i suggest that it's much better to apply that to our inner circle of friends or better yet to your best friend.

yeah of course, the name should not insult any one. as i think if you are really close to some one, you would not give any insulting name and that person will not find it insulting the name you will give.

you seem to be from US. but the name they gave you sound asian to me or more specifically more like my own language. it sounds more like sister in our dialect. anyways, you seem to have a very lovely family and i love the pokey name. sounds like cartoon name like we have cartoon show in name like that but wonderful to hear.

I really don't like the idea of having special names to call my friends or family. It is very difficult for me to call a stranger by his pet name. I will call people by short names only if they are very close to me. I haven't created a short name for any person till now. I don't care if others call me by pet names. Many of my friends are relatives call me in different names similar to my original name.

Hello hotsummer this is checkmail and me too often call some of mine family members and friends by an nickname. Its just represent the more friendly environment or its just an taunt to them, but in an friendly way.Yeah mostly its based on some cartoons and hero and heroin's names.Well it just predicts how close we are with them. Its really fun as well as to hear the nicknames as they are more cool and charming.Even i am most of the time called by mine nicknames, there are many nicknames for myself. So won't bother to call others by their nickname.Anyways Happy Mylotting.

yeah we sometimes make new nicknames so that it becomes more personal and unique and we wanna to have this kind of feeling that we are of different person from what we really are just for fun.

Hello hotsummer. I think all of us has experienced that not only me and you since we all have close friends that we call pet names to. Like for example my sister, we call her "chichini" which is very far from her original name. Second is our pet dog, his name is Disney but we call him "chinini". We sometimes interchanged both those names but what the heck. It's our form of sweetness to each other. As for friends, i am fond of calling them a unique nickname that can still be associated with their real name. For example the name sarah, we often call her "sars" or her middle name which she isn't known for. It really is flattering to be called pet names by other people since it reflects on the bond you have shared to each other. Then i suddenly missed my friends.. aww....

Hi hotsummer! I find it good to call someone with not his/her real name. I used to do it with my friends. I had friends from my workplace and he is the only guy in the team. I am calling him "men". I called my close friends there "mang!+ their name". Before I left there, another girl joined the team. She was so cute and she is actually the youngest among us. I was an addict in farmtown that time so I called her "avatar" since she looks like one of the cutest avatar in farm town. She loves it. She is now caller avatar in the workplace, especially on the team. Yan

I used to have a nick name which was a shortened version of my eal name. all the people who knew me would call me by it. Not the professional people though. Quite frankly I hated that, but what could I say? They didn't give me much of a cchoice. now, I don't even hear my name used much anymore. George will either call me sweetheart, honey, love or something of that nature. Others just call me by my name, or their varioation of it.

but i think that it will be good that if you will have another name besides the shortened version of your real name. like any hollywood actor you admire. ha ha. just ask them to call you that.
