According to the Manchester United Newsletter I received yesterday, Ryan Giggs has been named on the ten-strong shortlist for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year, alongside F1 champion Jenson Button, boxer David Haye and tennis player Andy Murray. A public vote will decide who wins the prestigious honour - the number for you to call will be announced during a live broadcast this Sunday night.
To vote for Ryan, please tune in to the Sports Personality of the Year show, live on BBC One, Radio 5 Live and BBC Sport's website at 19:00 GMT on Sunday 13 December.

Hi stvasile,
Thanks for your sharing and Sorry for this delay response.
I have seen the news that Giggs had been award with the best Athlete of the year 2009 by BBC. It is the great honor for him and he deserves it. He have been in Man United for amost 30 years and have played for more than 800 match only for Man United. It is very infrequent in current soccer age. He and Maldini are my idol.

His value as a sport personality cannot be contested, but I must underline that he was granted this award for his performance during 2009, which is even more valuable, considering he's not at all "young" for a football player (I hate it when people say he's "old", he is after all only 36...).

Of course Giggs deserves to be recognised as one of the UK's best sports personalities. For an old man he still plays like like a teenager and for that alone is good enough, but not only does he play as though he's 10 years younger he's brilliant at what he does.
