BE it to get rid or viruses , or improve performance or clean up unnecessary files
in how many weeks or months u perform a system format and install ur OS again
i do it only when problem arise but usually problems come usually once 3 months
because i have a good anti virus i never face problems from viruses but other problems arising like slowing down and some other probs make me format it

Formatting the computer should not be a frequent one... Frequent formatting of Hard Disc may result to failure of hard disk.
You say at least once in three months your computer facing some problem, so you better change your antivirus software or check you firewall settings. Still if you feel such problems, just upgrade your system if the configuration is less compatible for you usage.
Anyway frequent formatting is not at all good for computers.....

I hardly format my computer. My machine do not give any problem. I am happy the way it runs. I take a lot of care and keep my machine virus free.
I have a lot of important files in my computer, although I have backup but still I do not want to format my computer. I have my Ipod synchronized with MY MUSIC. So, I will have to do all that again when I will format. That is one of the reason why I try not to format my PC.

hi,
I dont format utill there is a problems like sudden shut down, some virus attack or when i want to upgrade to new OS etc.Frequently formatting is not adviceable as hard disk may crash and i dont want to take risks. For maintanance we need nt have to format but disk cleaning, defragmentation and frequently cleaning temp files can make your system work fast. And as i too have good anti virus software i am not having any problem to worry about virus.

I dnt like to format my pc that often, because I like it to go steady, although sometimes , I have to do it frequently in order to eradicate some problems or to make some changes to my configuration of pc. But sometimes, I can allow and manage with the same configuration for over a span of 5-10 months. But then, for stability and to run pc in good conditions, u must format your pc some 3-4 months regularly, But dont format the full hard drive. Just format the C: drive and install the OS again. because if u format the full hard drive, then you will lose all ur data and u will get angry over it.

once 3 months? That's too intense I think. I rarely reformat my system, as you said, I also manage to have antivirus and have implement preventive way to deny virus access (managing registry manually). As far as I recognize, I have never reformat my laptop, and it have been 2 and a half years now.

hi friends
U R RIGHT, I NEED NOT HAVE TO FORMAT MY SYSTEM WITHIN A PARTICULAR TIME PERIOD, BUT I DO SO WHEN I GET PROBLEMS, SUCH AS SHUTTING DOWN OF SYSTMEM, VIRUS ATTACKS, N DURING SLOWING DOWN OF ITS SPEED, BUT NOW I GOT ANTIVIRUS, AND I USUALLY DEFRAGMENT MY SYSTEM WITHIN A MONTY TO MAINTAIN ITS STABILITY, N I EVEN RUN SEVERAL UTILITIES LIKE DISK CLEANUP,ETC.

I don't like to formatt my hard drive very offten. I don't think that freedom sicenitific cares that I do eaither. I think they became anoyed when I had that problem with my laptop and had to get a new one because of fire danger. I had to reinstall Jaws and i'm only allowed to use it on one computer at a time. So when I told them what happened, they understood, because at first it looked like I was trying to install it on two. (they hadn't updated their system with what computer system I'm running.) So that was their fault. So to avoid confusion I only do it if my OS looks like it's going to crash.

I do format a lot because I think the virus is at the RAM so eventhough i format it, the virus will still come back as to formatting only cleans the Hard disk not the RAM. I think I need to buy a new system sometime in the near future because this system is like as old as my grandpa. LOL

I usually did it when the problem arise.Other issues ,such as slowing down ,I usually neglect it .In general,I format my system three times per year.I insist that until a problem arise ,there is no need to format it .As long as it doesn't my use,I won't.
