Do you like milk chocolate or dark chocolate?

I have never been a fan of milk chocolate. I am mildly lactose intolerant, and people like to tell me that's why, but I haven't always been, and the amount of milk in milk chocolate doesn't actually bother me, so I'm not really sure why it is. Milk chocolate just always seems to leave a weird aftertaste. I like super dark chocolate... the ones you can get that are 85% cocoa and almost more bitter than sweet.
When I was a kid, my dad used to give us squares of baking cocoa to eat, as a joke at first, but it turned out we liked them. I used to dip them in peanut butter, and it was the perfect amount of sweet and bitter and rich.
What about you? Do you like the creamy, sweet taste of milk chocolate, or the bite of super dark, or somewhere in between? As a pretty extreme chocolate lover, I believe everyone else loves it too, so go ahead and rant. I'm listening.

It's true... any chocolate is better with nuts. I especially like chocolate with peanut butter.

I'm not a big fan of milk chocolate either. I dislike milk's taste, so it reminds me a little of it. I prefer bitter chocolate. Some people dislike it, but I enjoy bitter tastes like that one.

I totally agree. When I eat it, the taste of milk overpowers the taste of chocolate, and it seems like a waste. Plus, I do try not to eat dairy, because of it's phlegm-creating qualities, and it seems dumb to eat chocolate I don't really like and then have milk in my body. Not really worth it.

I'd rather have milk chocolate over dark chocolate. Dark chocolate isn't sweet enough for me; it's rich, but not sweet enough. My dad loves dark chocolate though, so our house is pretty varied concerning all things chocolate.

Me and my fiance are the same way. She really likes milk chocolate, because she wants the sweetness and the creaminess, not just the chocolate taste. But I always have the really dark stuff around too, so any time one of us changes our mind, we have a selection to choose from.

Personally I like both. The taste is all the same to me to be honest. And in fact i've heard its good for you to eat it every once and a while especially dark chocolate. Its more natural and there are things in it that help in bone growth and strength. I believe this to be true. I broke my ankle some years back, and I ate chocolate almost every day while my leg was in the cast. I think it might have helped in the healing process. Though that was the longest six weeks of my life.

That sounds terrible. I've never broken a bone, but I can imagine how much it must hurt. Especially if it's your leg, so you can't even walk around. At least you had chocolate to help get you through.

For me, I would choose super dark chocolate. I usually get the 90% cocoa ones. For me, it doesn't seem bitter at all. Strangely enough, my taste buds hate bitter stuff but love dark chocolate. Usually if someone asks me if i would like a piece of chocolate, i would only choose milk if that was the only option left.

I'm glad you said that. I like strong chocolate and strong coffee, but not really other bitter stuff. Those things don't taste bitter to me, they taste rich.

I like both milk chocolates as well as dark chocolates. Provided an option to choose only one, I would opt for milk chocolates rather than dark chocolates. Chocolates are my most favorite. I love to eat them, especially swiss chocolates. I find it very difficult to resist myself from eating chocolates (both milk and dark chocolates).
I am capable of finishing even a box full of chocolates in no time. I eat, eat and keep on eating until the chocolates are finished and will feel like eating some more. My sister and I often use to fight for chocolates when we were kids and my mother used to shout at us..
But we never bother.. we keep on fighting for chocolates..
Even after I grew, I still cannot control my temptation to chocolates..

It really is addictive. I totally understand eating a whole box in one go - I can't say I've never done it. As long as you eat healthy things between, you're probably okay.

I have heard that, about dark chocolate actually being good for you, in reasonable amounts. It's funny how they go back and forth on what's supposed to be good or bad for you. I've even read articles saying coffee is good for us, in small doses.

Well, I do love the taste of milk chocolate as compared to the dark ones with a little bitter taste. Perhaps my taste buds prefer the sweet creamy ones. I know that each of us have different tastes and likes. In our family, we often eat milk chocolates.

Hi Surveygeek,
I'm lactose intolerant as well. Although I love all chocolates, I prefer milk chocolate over dark chocolate. It's much creamy and taste sweeter like you said. If you want to really eat milk chocolate, make it yourself. That's what I do. Therefore, I can control the amount that goes in. In fact, I use cream instead of milk in my recipe. My entire family loves my homemade chocolate. I put it on my brownies, cakes and cupcakes. If you want my recipe, I don't mind sharing it.

I love the dark chocolate taste over the milk chocolate taste. Although, I will have a piece of milk chocolate every now and then. I have had dark chocolate ever since I was little and I got hooked. Everytime someone had offered me chocolate, I always ask, is it dark chocolate. If they say no it will depend on what my taste buds are wanting for that day. Whether it be dark chocolate or milk chocolate. But I love my dark chocolate whether it be in between dark chocolate or super dark chocolate.

I'm the same way. I will eat milk chocolate sometimes, but I'll always choose dark if I have a choice. But there are certain things that are milk chocolate that I can't say no to. Like Reese's Peanut butter cups. I'll eat those in any form. Although recently they started making dark chocolate ones and they're amazing.

Just the day I do not have chocolates they are being discussed!! I love chocolates in any form but those with rum centres are my favourite. Also those that take long to chew I simply love them with or without milk.

I love chocolates especially dark chocolate which they called the "bitter sweet". I get bored to too much sweets like the milk chocolate, so I always prefer the dark chocolates over milk chocolates. Health wise as well, dark chocolates has an antioxidant and a lot of health benefits.

Hi Surveygeeek,
Well medically they say dark chocolates are good anti oxidant and good for health. I feel black chocolates sometimes taste bitter due to more cocoa..i like milk chocolates.

abselutely I love dark chocolate! Cause I know the milk ones own much sugar and mulk that can gain my weight. And someone told me the dark ones with more than 66% coco are good for human's health. However I admit the milk chocolate taste better for most people. To me, I like the taste of dark ones.

I like dark chocolate (like a French woman). that tastes more good. And you eat less chocolate because you feel very good taste. And you don't need more.

I would definitely go for milk chocolate because it's very creamy and delicate to the mouth...it's very addicting especially when they have nuts...I don't like with raisins. Dark chocolate is very bitter and it usually when I eat them, I do get a palpitation...maybe they are richer and has more caffeine on them. But when i'm studying and I wanted to stay awake and alert, I tend to munch on dark chocolates.
