The year 2009 was not a good year financially for most of the world. But we are recovering from it. Lots of people were cutting back on everything through the whole year. As the Christmas and new year around most of the people are now back to holiday spirit. Lots of people are doing holiday shopping, and I am glad to see that. Otherwise as the data of job loss and people losing home describes the situation is scary. We went to mall today and it was packed, it was so hard to find parking spot. I am glad to see it like that in this years situation.
What it is like in your place, are people busy doing holiday shopping?
How your friends and family doing in this tough time?

Well the Shops are certainly more packed this Year but it was on our News that the Retailers are a bit worried as many People are shopping online now and I have to admit if my Children where still little and I would have to do Food shopping and that I would be shopping online to
It is easier as there is no pushing and shoving and having to stand in the Queue
My Daughter was lucky enough with her Job as they did not have to cut back on Staff, but my Son in his Trade has been laid of again and that is the 3rd time this Year, so I hope in the New Year he will be able to get work again but he is working at Night at the moment so he is still earning but not very good

Hi gabs, after a long time, I am glad to see you again on my discussion.
It is true that many people are shopping online this time. Good to know that your family is managing to keep their job and did not need to cut back on staff.
Have a nice holiday!

One of my daughters works for Walmart and she said that they've been very busy so it looks like folks are shopping down here in my area. Everyone in my family is feeling the pinch in one way or another. If it's not a job loss, it the high cost of everything. My husband and I aren't cutting anyone out of our regular gift giving but we may spend a little less money this year. I told my oldest daughter and my son to concentrate on their children and not to worry about giving my husband and me anything since money is tight for both of them as well.

Some of my family is doing well, and some not so well. I have had a financially good year. Relationship wise it has had some rough spots. The stores seem packed around here as well.

My husband and I got creative this year.
a) A friend of ours published a book
b) We were very active on websites like MyPoints and Swagbucks, which award Amazon.com gift certificates.
So we ordered our free gift cards, and then when we got them, we ordered the books. So Christmas didn't cost us much at all. We were lucky, and my friend sold about 15 books, because of us. :)

Hello Sweetlady.
Yes, people here are busy doing their holiday shopping. I do think the sales will be up from last year. I also, though, know many who definitely pare back even yet and look for the best bargains for gifts they can find. It is good, though, since we never want to get in another situation like this one. This is true, too, for my family and friends. We are recovering, but have learned to be much more frugal in things than in the past, and that is not a bad thing :)

I totally understand what you are talking about. Because of what happened last year or this year people have learned to use their money properly. The people spend their money would not be same again. Hope situation like this will never come again.

Well, here the malls are also full of people ,but I noticed that most
people are just buying stuff on sale. The good news is that everyone
is excited about Christmas ,and what counts is for everyone to celebrate
even if we need be a little bit more simple this year.

People here are filling up the mall parking lot. I think they're all looking for a great deal. While they have commercials here saying to buy local to help the local businesses, I'd rather stay away from the crowds and find myself a few good deals on line. I've gone a little at a time and bought one or two things at a time since October and am almost finished. I like having the wrapping done early so I'm not up all night Christmas Eve wrapping and finding that I've shorted one of the kids a gift or two.

The malls will always be crowded at this time of year because no matter how bad things get people still seem to think they must buy a bunch of stuff for the holidays even if they have to max out their credit cards.

I think most people are eager to go for shopping especially during year end sales. At my place, there's a newly opened shopping mall and I was somewhat surprised to see that there were so many people carrying shopping bags. They just shop as if money is like water. I wonder whether they have been saving up for Christmas or they are financially stable. As for me and my hubby, we have tried not to over spend especially on gifts and just buy whatever we think that are suitable with reasonable prices. I am not sure about my friends, but I know other family members are trying to cut some expenses as well so that we can still save some to celebrate Christmas together.

Before this year even started, I knew that it was going to be a difficult year for our family, but I also wanted to make sure that it would be a good holiday season for our children so I did something that I have never done in the past. I started my Christmas shopping extremely early so that I wouldn't have to be one of the people that was scampering around at the last minute to get my Christmas shopping done. That said, the extent of my holiday shopping this season was on Black Friday when I actually finished my Christmas shopping. I can tell you that based on that day alone, the shoppers were out in force.

Yes, the year of 2009 is not really good year for the holiday because of financial cricis, but lots of people are having a budget fun. Very soon the Christmas and New year eve are comming. As I believe people are preparing their budget for this events. Are you with me? I'm preparing a small budget for this eve and planning to celebrate the Christmas at my own home with a small budget. Of course, I'm not a professional cook, but I love to cook myself. I've more than ten family members at home. In the Christmas we sit together, pray, sing, dance, drink, eat together and enjoy ourselves. This is only the way to celebrate the eve with a small budget. Try to enjoy yourself whatever budget you have that's the way of happylife!
