Come winter and you start hearing the sneezes and snuffles.Common colds are really a curse in winter.Flu is also a common disease associated with winter. What then is the remedy. The answer is to be found in your own backyard. As early as 1919 when flu killed millions it was seen that onions came as a life-saver.Farmers who were in the habit of keeping peeled onions in a plate in each room found that the flu did not have any effect on them.People who suffered from high fevers often had a slice of onion kept on the bottom of each of their feet and cover it by wearing cotton socks. The onions would turn black overnight and the fever would be gone.Onions boiled in hot water when added to honey would make a good cough syrup.

I eat onions all the time...maybe that is why I hardly ever get sick? I like onions. I will eat them cooked or raw. The only downside to onions is that they give me gas, which makes me fart a lot, but I love eating them, so I just have to deal with it...LOL

Hi ranjan001,
Yes with winter we have to be prepared for this sort of common diseases. To overcome cough and cold,Ginger also is a good remedy. No doubt, onion is the best one.Actually,it is antioxidant too.So it is helpful in destroying the free radicals from the body.
It is good for brightness of teeth and also useful for eyesight.Everybody should make use of onion in routine food.
