By now, after years of yo yo dieting, fad dieting, and starvation dieting, I finally learned that it is not all about overeating, but eating the wrong foods period. A proper diet is not just about how much you eat but what you eat and how much exercise you get. As a rule, the only people that have to worry about overeating are those who have a high-carb, low fiber diet and do next to no exercise. The body is a wonderful, powerful machine that can regulate itself and knows how much fuel to take in if you treat it right. The hunger meter adjusts itself as long as you do not give it a lot of junk to throw it off balance. Even people with certain problems can maintain their weight with a "proper" diet (not minimal food diet) - ie diabetics, people who are insulin resistant, people with sluggish thyroid glands. It has been proven that the proper ratio of protein, fats, and carbs in a diet combined with exercise eliminate the need to diet for more than 90% of the population. That is not a diet, that is a lifestyle.
That said, I would challenge you to change your question to read, "Are you one who eats correctly?".

To answer my own question, most of the time I eat correctly. The years of improper diet continue to remind me of the bad foods that I so dearly love and I fall off of the wagon all too often. I am insulin resistant so white sugar is my enemy. All I have to do is start doing the right thing and eat the proper foods - cut out the white sugar, white pasta, white potatoes, white rice, white bread etc, and get back to the protein and fresh fruits and vegetables.

I'm also guilty about overeating and eating unhealthy foods. I don't watch what I'm eat I know it is not good for me because I have a health problem. I can't stop myself eating unhealthy foods like junkfoods and sweets. I'm starting to control my eating habits last month and I'm losing a bit but right now I'm back to my old habits and Christmas is approaching. Foods are everywhere it is hard to be on the diet during this holiday.

Avg, my heart is right there with you. This is the season of delicious sweets galore. I truly love the wonderful pastries that you can only get during this season. It really takes will power and I am so weak at times. Happy holidays to you and good luck. Let's do the best we can, don't worry about it, and get back on the wagon the day after New Year's.

Hi, velocity_186. No, I don't tend to overeat. For some strange reason, I don't eat as much as I used to. If I feel myself to the point of getting full then I will stop. That way, I won't overeat. When I am full it is hard for me to stuff my mouth any longer.

I have to say I can tend to overeat. Especially if its a food I really love. Unfortunately all the foods I love are really stodgy and make you easily gain weight. I love pasta and will stuff myself stupid with it, I also love curry and pizza so not the healthiest choices. I have to try and compensate for my huge appetite by exercising a lot but its a hard balance.

So, do you mean over eating and getting fat?
I know, i eat alot myself but hardly put on any weight so i guess me over eating would mean me eating enough to put weight on.....i think :P
If so, then no i guess. I hardly have to watch what i eat at all. When im hungry i eat, when im full i don't and my body does what it wants :)

I might have once been cloose to be an overeater, but im not anymore if i was close, now i actually eat less than i did 1 year ago, and i feel faster filled because now i have gotten used to eat a little less... I changed my eating habbits because i didnt want to end up obese, and im still loosing weight from the change of my eating habbits... :) So im going towards my optimal normal weight instead of beeing in the top end of normal weight...

I must admit I do overeat sometimes. I just can't resist the foods especially during holiday seasons or just simple gatherings. It's really hard to resist those good looking and yummy dishes presented and displayed on the table especially here in our country we have lots of delectable dishes which are very pleasing to the taste. I love eating and it's one of my passion I guess. Good thing I don't gain weight easily. I think it's just all about metabolism.

Sad to say, but "YES, I'm soooo guilty!" I would eat and eat and eat as long as I see food. I've read some books saying that it's a matter of having the right mindset. But I could not help it but think that I could gain more weight whenever I eat more food.

Yes, I overeat quite frequently, which explains why I'm a bit overweight. I'm so use to eating when I'm not necessarily hungry that it's a hard habit to break. Even though I realize that I should stop, sometimes I just let myself go. I don't eat a crazy amount, but I do eat more than I'm suppose to, sometimes when I'm bored also. I think for myself, it's a lack of self-control, because it's not as if I'm not aware that I'm eating when I'm not hungry or eating more than I'm suppose to. I realize it, but yet I let myself go. Sometimes I'm successful at controlling myself to not overeat, however a majority of the times, I overeat in a day. My appetite is also inconsistent. Some days, I like to eat a lot and I like to munch on snacks of all sorts. Other days, I'm not too hungry and I only eat because I know I have to. I don't work out either so that doesn't help me out with the weight problem, though I am majorly consistent in my weight. It probably evens out because of my 'weird' appetites. I think I can change my habit; it'll take a lot of discipline but it's worth it in the end. I think anyone can change their bad habits if they want to get rid of it bad enough.

I don't really think about it. I just om nom nom until I'm full, and then I'm done. Which is a good thing, because I get full pretty fast as a given.
When I really over eat, I feel very fat afterwards. So I go exercise to get rid of the guilt. But that's just me.
