Hi. I would just like to share my experience for today. I went to a different bank to withdraw money intended for Christmas celebration. According to the ATMachine, my bank was offline at that moment so what I did was I went to my bank to withdraw once again and I found out that the my account was already less than I was expecting. My account was debited, in short. They said it will still take 2-3 weeks for the money to be returned to my account. I just felt bad because I already need the money within this week. What should I do?

Just a simple comment, no offence intended. There are no people that push the buttons on atm's and it's also not entirely the fault of the computer. What happen's is that the systems fails in the middle of the computer performing a transaction. The computer notes the point at which the transaction was interrupted and would normally indicate on the back-end that the money was not issued and the transaction is deserving of an inspection in which case the relevant personnel will check the cameras and so forth. To better understand what happens one would have to do some basic research on the intricacies of transaction management in database management systems.

It will take a little bit of time as whomever services the ATM will notice the amount in the ATM to be over atleast your amount as well as perhaps some others. Sadly it may take that long if your bank doesn't own that ATM machine to get the situation remidied. Sorry such a thing happened during such an expensive time of year.

Yes you are right. It's really sad that it happened this time. We are already about to celebrate Christmas so I badly need that money. How I wish it will back the earliest possible.

Sorry about what happened but you have to wait and hope that they are able to rectify it and you have to keep checking up on them so they do it.

I would love to know where you bank for one thing, and what moron told you it would take three weeks for your money to be returned to you. I have never been told that, and I had my debit card stolen once. I imidattly got on the phone, reported it stolen, and the next morning I was sitting in my bank, explaining the situation. The money I lost was credited to my account from the bank within two days. The only reason I can think they would say that was if it took them that long to process a fruad application. Seeing as I had gone directly to the bank, the process was taken care of quickly.

The thing is to get the Bank that owns the ATM to service it and discover there is an error in the amount still in the ATM & then try to track down where it belongs. Then they have to figure out how to credit the funds to the issuing bank of the cardholder. I don't think it will take quite that long, but it depends on how often the ATM is balanced and the companies your dealing with. Now your check card was stolen, it's easier to get things done when you only have to deal with the bank who issued the card. Now when your bank has to deal with another bank it's hard to say when the amount would be discovered. Honestly, I don't recall seeing too many overages if any when I used to work on an ATM & it was a few yrs back.

From my experience as a bank teller and specifically as an ATM custodian it is a common occurrence. The process in such an event would be to basically check the cameras and make sure the customer did not receive any money. Because of this I see no reason why it should take so long for you to get your money back. There are probably internal policies that have to be followed to the letter, who knows.
