I was shocked to see an article on a networking site which had been copied verbatim by a mylot member from a recent discussion that I had posted here on mylot. While my reactions range from disbelief to anger, I am wondering how to react to this!
Thanks to dhawanbm who has pointed this out and I am so glad that he did.
Have any of you had your articles copied of plagarised on a different site and what did you do ?

This is shocking Mimpi and i can totally understand the anger. Why is it that people just cannot be original and write things on thier own? People like this need to be banned not only from the site where he has copied it to, but also from mylot for violating the sanctity of this place.
I have not had an experience like this before and i would hope that you have reported him .You have the support of your friends here to take whatever strong action against this cheater.

Being passive sometimes is taken as a weakness and we need to report things like this. What if everyone started ignoring it or letting it go, that only allows such things to go on unchecked and increase more and more.
It's good that the admin of that site has removed the article although i'm not sure how effectively the person has got the message or not. I hope that he does not try something like this again to with anybody.

Its difficult to stop people like this. But then, we can form our opinions against them and pull them down whenever and wherever possible.
I am glad that the post has been deleted.

Indeed Alok! I wish I could be passive like the above users. Even though I can understand their point of view I can never be so matter-of-fact with some crime going on around. We must have our opinions and make others aware of the facts as well.
And, I must tell you that with all your good wishes and sincere efforts the user has be warned and the post has bee removed. So, it works. I agree, we cannot eradicate such people and such kinda intentions but we must speak out.
Thanks.

That is very mean of that person.I hate people stealing. It is a loathsome practice.
Please complain to the people who has published that plagiarised matter with proof.
You should not let these thieves get emboldened by getting away free with this disgusting practice.
I have the experience of seeing a couple of my discussions copied and presented as their own just by presenting it in a new format here in Mylot.I jut fume and amble away.I always feel that it is not worth getting my blood heated up on these worthless lot.

I totally agree with you Bala. We must protest whenever and wherever. Anger, outburst are but normal and we must not be hesitant in exhibiting our emotions. At the end of the day its important that we go to the bed peacefully after fighting for justice and not just letting it go and not fighting for the truth.

I just cannot digest literacy thieving.I know how much of labour pain one has to undergo to strike at a single perfect word in a lengthy article that he is trying to write. And I could understand the enormous satisfaction to the soul one gets after reading his finished product.Stealing that article is one of the most inhuman and cruel and lecherous crime one can do.

mimpi1911 thats just plain awful for you and stupid of the myloter who did that. Can you report the person to mylot admins as they would like to know of mylotters who copy and plagarize
someone else's work. I know I would feel furious if someone
copied a discussion of mine and passed it off as one
of his or her own.

I think I must do that as well. Letting mylot know would be a good thing to warn the user. I will do that today. You know what i was furious yesterday now little relaxed but I really feel bad about it.

I know you will understand my emotions. It feels really bad and this discussion kind of shows how angry and frustrated I had been at that point in time. I think nothing is more cowardly than publishing someone else's thoughts as ours. I condemn it.

That is true, i do understand how you feel. I have been writing on this other site and if i find out that one of my stories there would be copied just like what happened to you, of course i will be very furious. It's my work, my sweat and blood put in those stories, though they are just simple short stories. Just like in your case, what we have written are ours no matter what.

No i have never had such thing done to me ast least not to my knowledge .And like you I would be angered by such an action .I mean I really put a lot of energy into my discussions and to know that persons are using my material without so much as a a thank you .Although I must admit it is flattering in a weird way

Flattering? Well I am not sure because people who do this hardly have the time and inclination to go through the whole article and perceive it. And an individual who reads through, perceive and think would never copy the content verbatim.
What do you say?

There really are people who do that!?!?
Well, there are all kinds of people in our large world. You shouldnt be so surprised about it. I am more surprised that you find out that someone took you article. However, when your anger disperse you will most probably feel sorry for the guy/girl that has such a small imagination that he/she has to steal ideas rather than making their own ones.
Cheer up: People coppy the great minds - you have just been promotet to a great mind :)

Ignore!? Well, that's all we can do at the end of the day. I couldn't have found it out except for a well wisher here who goes to the other site as well. And I am glad that he did. Just because cyber laws are not feasible to control crimes on internet doesn't mean that we should not know about it and be surprised.

Hi dear!
It is really shocking and disgusting that someone unabashedly copied your discussion. It is highly unethical and squarely unfair to copy in such a manner. Actually you write thought provoking posts which might have prompted the person to copy your post. If you feel like the matter could be reported to the concerned authorities.

This is sad really. I don't think people who cheat on others by copying their original contents have the ability to judge how good or bad an article is truly. They might go by the instant appeal of it. And also, do you think, people who have hardly any time to think and express their thoughts would read through the whole article? I don't think so.
Al said and done now the user has been warned and the post has been removed.

These kind of people simply copy and use others well written thoughts to gain credit for themselves. I see that someone has posted a comment on that site that this discussion has been copied. It is good, others should also see and note that this is a copied discussion.

I'm not surprised that this has happened, since it happens quite frequently on this site (that discussions are copied by another user, maybe changed a little and then posted as a different discussion). It must happen a lot, sadly.
Like another myLotter said, it is sad that this person has so little imagination that they would stoop to doing this.
I like what you have written in the comments section on mypage5.com, that's a start in reporting this person. Can you contact admin on mypage5.com, and complain to them directly? Maybe the user will be banned there.
It might also be worth contacting admin here on myLot to see if they can help, or if they have any suggestions. It's not in their interest either if people illegally copy the content here.

Thanks liquorice. I am glad that one of the users here who probably visits page5 as well pointed it out to me. I am not a member of that website and I guess that comment was written by some good soul who did so well reporting it to the admin. I, on my part, wrote to the admin and they have been very prompt in removing the content and warning the user.

What the..? That was a recent one. Whoever did it was quite fast. That discussion was just a few days old and I havent even been able to respond to it. Banning them from myLot and myPage could be a measure taken but I dont think it will stop the person from doing that again. He/she will just use other sites and just "stalk" your discussions for new material. But still, doing nothing about this would just be synonymous to saying that what they did was okay.
As far as I know, this kind of thing has not happened to me yet. If ever that it did, Im not aware of it. Im sorry to hear about this mimpi. I hope some action will be done to correct this.

The content has been removed and the user warned sufficiently but I agree with you. Plagiarism cannot be stopped fully and we have to live with it. However, we MUST protest and fight for our rights. Ignoring it as you have rightly said means accepting it.
Last time ( I think, I have told you about that incident) my article was copied in bits and pieces but this one was verbatim. I was surprised and was angry for obvious reasons.

I can't say that I have had a mylot discussion plagerised, but I write articles on several sites and they have been copied to some extent. Most of them were scrambled and were quite funny. No one ever stole the exact material. I guess if they did I would either ask them to take it down or leave comments everywhere I could about the ordeal.

OH! That's not good. For the most part you can't get anywhere when people rewrite your article, but if they do word for word, then you have a case. A cut and paste of your discussion really sucks! Did you contact mylot? Is the person a member of mylot? If you don't know you probably never will, unfortunately. I think I would complain to mylot though. They have a stake in it as well.

That's great news. I would figure the person wouldn't have gotten in trouble because you would have had to prove it was your words. I wonder why people would do that especially on other blogs. Either they can't think for themselves or just want to sound smarter. Kudos to you!

I might have wrote about the same topics, but nothing is verbatim. If I did do it I would have no idea. I have got ideals from comments that I have thought of while commenting to someone else's discussions. Nothing has ever been verbatim or exactly like the discussion I have commented on. I think I would be upset also. It is lucky for you that someone found it because I do not whiz through all the discussions. I mostly only comment from discussions I have started or the ones that come to my e-mail through mylot digest.

Thanks for your response. I think, we all kind of borrow thoughts and get inflenced by what others have to say but then we never copy them word by word, do we? That's the difference, I guess.

yes there are lots of ways and things that we can start exploring for an article and not copying one's idea. i hope this will end and for those who are planning to do it or still doing it, i hope they will realize the negative impact on this to them and they're so disrespectful to the author of the article!

Oh it happened to me also. I had around 15 blogs in my account and one day was shocked to see all my article's copied word to word and put on another web site. When I tried to get in touch with the person and explained the situation she acted cool and said that was nothing new and it is always done, so don't make a big issue of it . Then I had to report her and when things started to move against her she removed my material.

Yes, it has happened to me. About one month ago, a cousin of mine alerted me to the fact that my history research had been published on Ancestor.com. I looked it up and there it was, word for word. A 500 word article that I had researched. I was furious. I wrote to ancestor.com and received a vague reply. Dont know if they did anything about it.

PS: Nice to see you after long Jenny. Hope you are good.

I think that it is completely wrong for someone to do something like this. After all, they do teach us in school that it is wrong to copy off of people and when we copy the intellectual work of another person for our papers, if we do not properly document our sources, then we are guilty of plagarizing someone elses work. For someone, most likely an adult to be doing this is absolutely wrong. Honestly, what are they getting out of copying your work in the long run.
