Christmas is closing up fast now, and most people will spend some time with their beloved families, some may even have to travel a bit of a distance to visit their families for Christmas, where other choose to travel away from all the Christmas hazzle and have a veacation instead.
In my case im going to travel to get home, if there is no ques on the German highways i will have about 8½ hours in car until i will be at my parents place where my family will celebrate Christmas this year. So i will leave the Netherlands where i currently live with my boyfriend to get home to a good Danish Christmas...
What will you do? Travel to get to the family Christmas or try to get away on veacation instead?

My case seems very different from most. I try to get away from my family during Christmas. I'd rather have a nice relaxing vacation with my boyfriend than being around my pushy, annoying, never-content mother. Every Christmas turns out to be hell, especially if my father comes over haha. There hasn't been a holiday without a fight, in years.

hello Lostinlove
Im sorry that your Christmas always ends up in fighting, people have several reasons to want leaving Christmas for a veacation, my Cousin goes to the Gran Canarian Islands with her boyfriend and his family because they dont want all the regular Christmas stuff, it is the first time for her to miss out Christmas in her family, so she is a little curious if she likes beeing away or not.

Me, my wife and kids live in one of the major cities in the Philippines that is far away from my hometown and also my wife's hometown. Every Christmas, me and family travel to my hometown to spend Christmas there and travel back home in our house to spend our New Year. Me and my wife don't travel to my wife's hometown because my wife's folks want to spend their New Year in our house.
But this Christmas, we cannot travel to my hometown to spend Christmas there because there is no budget. I'm kinda out of money right now. Well maybe next year. I have already called my mom and dad that we couldn't make it this Christmas. Well my folks understand.

Hello Benallos
Im sorry for you and your family do not get to celebrate Christmas together this year, but I hope the best for the following year and that the economy may change for you. Im still sure you will have a nice Christmas and a happy new year though.
Parents always seem to understand the situation of thier children even though they are ofcause sad they cannot make it, im not sure if i will be going home following Christmas as it would seem more fair to my boyfriends family that we visit them next year, well time will show.

Christmas is the most expensive time of the year to fly anywhere. The fares go up from early to mid December until New Year. I had spent Christmas overseas twice. The first time I was on my way around the world. I spent Christmas Day on the beach in tropical Queensland. I had New Year in Cairns. I had another Christmas in New Zealand. I went on a dolphin watching trip. For New Year I went up the Ninety Mile Beach. This year I will stay at home with my family. It will be my daughter's first Christmas. I will have my trip to Canada in June 2010 in winter it is too cold for me there.

Hello Maximax
You have certainly seen the world around during Christmas times, did you back then travel for the purpose of getting away, or was it just the time period that suited you the best?
