I have made up my mind about 2010. I am going to do things I have NEVER done before, one of those things is leave AMERICA... LOL, I'll be back though. I just want to go some where nice and exotic for less than a grand! If anyone has any tips for a first time traveler. First time on a plane, first time leaving the country, etc. I would love to hear it. I am thinking of Jamaica.. but I am open to any suggestions. Can you all also give me some sites that might be helpful when it comes to booking trips for cheap! Thanks in advance!

I suggest that you fly to one destination and fly back home from another airport. For example you could fly to Guatemala City and then fly home from Panama City. You could read Central America On a Shoe String by Lonely Planet. I have just joined a discussion site for travelers. If you become my friend I could send you a link for it. I got a cheap flight to Cancun and then traveled down to Belize and Guatemala. I went by bus and used a few ferries. I loved seeing the Mayan ruins and spending time on the palm fringed beaches. I found the local people friendly. I have done much traveling in the world and that was one of my best trips. I am so pleased you are going off traveling in 2010. I am going to Canada in 2010. Happy traveling.

Check out Online Vacation Center. I just got an email from them and they have some incredible prices on cruises.

Wish that I knew where you were from. Your budget is very small and depending on what area of the country you live in, different places will be cheaper. I live in southern California and when we're looking for a cheap getaway, we look at Mexico. Check out sites like Expedia and Hotels.com. It's always cheaper when you buy a package that includes hotel and air than it is to buy them separately. I would also check out Jet Blue and Southwest Airlines. We picked up tickets for about $200 RT last year to fly from California to Rhode Island through Southwest. We're also going to Sand Francisco for a week in Jan because we were able to pick up tickets on Southwest for $50 round trip. Since DH and I retired, I've subscribed to a number of travel sites and if it's cheap, we're going! Have you considered a cruise? We picked up a cruise to Mexico in October for $199 for a 7 day cruise. As an aside to doing things that you've never done before, I started that practice about 5 years ago when I felt like my life stalled. Every day, I do something that I'm doing for the first time and I track it in my "firsts" journal. It really makes me feel fulfilled.
