I am a person who eats very frequent, especially when it's late at night already. I know that it is not really advisable for an individual to eat something before going to bed but I couldn't help it. I once thought that maybe that could be the reason why I sometimes had bad dreams. What do you think fellow myLotters? How about you, do you eat something before sleeping too?

Hey pentagan. I personally don't ever eat anything before i go to sleep, usually. I normally eat my dinner and then 2 hours later i go to bed and sleep. I only eat something right before i sleep (the closest) is when i am watching a film, maybe once every fortnight in the weekend. I usually take out a snack - like a packet of crips. They go well with the movie :P. I don't think it's advisable for you to eat a meal before you sleep, because of digesting issues. Anyways, happy mylotting and gratz on 100th post :P.

It's good that you can control it. For me, it's difficult to control my appetite. Everytime I see food, I always think of eating it. Anyway, thank you for leaving a comment here in my cost. Yes, I do enjoy writing something here in myLot. Happy myLotting too.

I often eat before sleeping but that's only because I get too hungry and don't want to sleep empty in the stomach. I think it's more dangerous to not eat when hungry. I do tons of work even until the late evening so it's not unusual to get hungry in the middle of the night. What I do is just stay awake for just a couple of minutes after eating just so I don't sleep right away as I am very much full.

Hi calai: That's exactly what my mom told me when i was a kid: If you eat at night you have to wait before you go to sleep. I think that's a good advice because i used to have nice dreams and that means that i wake up very relaxed and ready for another day of work. Thanks for your answer. Have a nice day.

I know the saying... some say the reason why people gain weight is because they eat before they go to bed. Well, in my case that I have really proven that to be very untrue. I eat all the time, whenever I am hungry or want something sweet to eat and I have been the same size since I was in high school and I am about to graduate graduate school this month. I took a year off in between getting out of college. I really don't eat healthy at all. I love sweets. I even had a child who is one year old right now. So, I do not see anything wrong with eating when you are hungry, as long as you do not over do it or if you have health issues, I would not recommend it. Now, I do believe it causes health problems if you eat excessively and all bad foods over a period of time, it will eventually catch up to you. I do not recommend eating the way I do, but I am enjoying life and living it to the fullest. It really depends on the person.

Well, primarily, I really do want to gain weight because I am underweight. But, that is not really the main reason why I do eat at night. Eating already became my hobby. I enjoy it and I do love it.

Hello, maybe eating before going to bed doesn't put on weight to some people, but I don't think it is a good habit, the doctors are always advising us not to eat before sleeping, because that will add the load of our digest system,if you do like this for a long time,it does harm to your body.I don't eat before going to bed,I only eat two meals a day,and no sweeat drinkings, just water.

oh man same habit with me , i am always hungry before going to bed even late night when i wake up i go to kitchen and see if i found something in my kitchen , my mom is getting sick from my behavior , and it think eating at night is much valuable because at night calories burn fast lolz so i always keep an apple with me or any other fruit so that whenever i am hungry at night i can eat a healthy food , i used to keep a packet of chips but now a realized that fruits are better than anything for mid-night meal.

I don't eat at night. It is not advisable to eat before going to sleep. If you can't help it, allow 2 to 3 hours to pass before going to sleep. This is a medical fact. My dad is a doctor and he always remind us not to eat less than 2 hours before bed time. The reason is it might cause a syndrome called pancreatitis which is fatal. You must allow at least 2 hours after eating, for the food to be fully digested in your stomach.

Thanks and I do know about it too because I am a nurse in profession. It's just that I don't have the power to control my desire to eat at night. :-(

Oh my gosh, we're the same. I know it's not healthy to eat before bedtime but I can't help it. I always feel hungry before going to bed so that's why I want to it. But I only eat a few cookies or just a small meal. And I'll wait for like 15 mintues before sleeping. Maybe that's the reason for your bad dreams.

I love to eat even heavy meals before I sleep because it makes me sleepy when I ate something and I even drink coffee after I ate those.

I am a diabetic so i eat 6 times a day and while they are smaller meals the last meal the i have is normally around 10 at night. It is usually a snack like an apple, ornage, celery that is low in calories. I too have heard that if you eat late at night your body doesn't have time to process and breal down the food therefore it stores away as fat but in my opinion that is not the fully true...I think it has more to do with what you calories intake is for the whole day and not just what foods you eat after 9 pm for say. If you eat foods that are low in calories such as fruit and veggies they break down easier and can be digested before you fall asleep...

Well, it's said that you should have dinner at least 2 hours before going to sleep, as otherwise it will help you to gain weight.
I don't know if it's true or not. I'm used to have dinner late, as it's a common thing in my country, but I haven't gotten fat because of that.
Also having a big dinner can make you have a bad sleep. It's true that if I have a big dinner I have very vivid dreams.

Did you really gain weight? I have been doing this thing since I was in a university. I am already working right now but I guess nothing has changed to my body built. I really wanted to gain weight but it didn't work for me. I envy you. How I wish i will also gain weight very soon (at least 5kg will do).

Actually I know my body very well. If I try to go to sleep and I have eaten past seven o'clock at night my food doesn't digest right and I go to bed feeling sick because my stomach hurts, meaning I can't fall asleep. Actually in my life I practice having a balanced diet and excercise regime. What are you trying to tell me, your six years old? That doesn't even make sense. I don't think you have gotten proper training in being a nutritionist or dietitian, so really you shouldn't be giving out advice. Thanks anyways.

Well, it depends. I normally have dinner very late and soon after, like about an hour or so, I would go to sleep. I normally eat late because I wouldn't have the time to cook food and make a "good" meal. But if it also counts, when watching a movie whilst in my bed, I usually get a packet of chips and eat them. I normally feel abit of a stomach ache when I do this, and I always need to go to the bathroom in the night, it can get really annoying as well as painful sometimes.

Oh I see. Well in my case, I seldom go to the bathroom late at night even if I eat too much. I understand your situation but I am hoping that you will no longer experience these things so that you can enjoy eating while doing something at night.

Everybody should take their Dinner before 2hrs to bed. Its scientifically said that one should not immediately go to bed after dinner coz inorder to digest food it takes atleast some time.moreover there wont be any physical activities after dinner so give some time for the system to digest properly.

They say we shouldn't be eating more at nights because our bodies will be resting and no energy is needed. But I guess it's already in our system to eat three times a day, morning, noon and evening. And sometimes we can't avoid to eat more even at night time esp if the food seems so yummy.

Hi pentagan: I will say the truth, i do the same as you do and that's because of my anxiety. There's a moment where i simply want to eat no matter if i don't feel hungry just to be "doing something", when i am worried about a problem and there's nothing i can do to make it right at the moment i eat and as you say it's not something good or recommended but it's important to admit what you do wrong to find a solution. Thanks for starting this discussion. Hope you are ok right now.
