The answer is by serving people who are needy and the destitute. Only by serving the people in distress and poverty can we serve God. That is why the sanskrit saying goes maanava seva eva maadhava seva. Serving God without thinking about the people in distress will have no real fruit. Right?

Wrong.
My understanding is that you serve G*d by serving ALL PEOPLE. 'His people' (i.e. the ones who AGREE that they are His, as opposed to the rest of His people who either disagree or are as-yet uninformed) first---like you tend the lambs of your boss's flock before you tend the wild ones.
'The lambs within your flock' are the ones who share in the abundance that is inherent to the mindset of a follower of Christ. 'The wild ones' see that your aid to them comes from the source of 'the flock' and thus obey your wisdom---rooted as it is in the love of Christ.

Serving God starts when a person understands who God is and trusted Christ as Savior and Lord. A person cannot serve God without a personal and intimate relationship with Him. Helping others is one of the areas in which a person may serve God. Others may also include the Preaching of God's Word. Another would be obedience to all His commands and precepts. A wonderful day.

I agree with you 100%. It is best done if we sincerely serve our fellowmen. It will show in us that love of god to other people. It is also important that we do things by setting a good example. We also have to keep our mouth shut especially if we cannot say good things about others.

I don't think it's only the needy and the destitute that we need to serve. It's all people. Even people who aren't in distress and poverty need the help of others. It's important to think of others and give yourself unto others.
"Every man shall give as he is able, according to the blessing of the Lord thy God which He hath given thee." Deuteronomy 16:17
This does not mean only to the poor. This means your friends, family, coworkers, etc. We all need help. We all need to come together as a people and help each other ... serve each other. This is how we can serve God.
