An Appeal that moved me

I recollect a boring Sunday July morning in Mumbai some 26 years ago.I was young hardly 28years or so and on that rainy morning I was just going through the morning papers.A column caught my attention. It was a compelling read."Ann sen is dying...........But she wants to live.It gave details of an 18year old girl who needed kidney transplant very badly. The funds necessary would be around 2.5-3.0 lac rupees which was quite a sum in the early 80's.Somehow the more I tried to think and divert my mind I could not do so.The words haunted me.The very next day I cheked out with my bank and immediately made out a cheque for Rs1005 and send it to the father of the girl,Mr.Sen.A correspondence developed between us and 6 months later I learnt that she and her mother made it to the US.There they participated in charity singing concerts and raised the money since individual donations could just pool up to 40% of the medical expenses.By God's grace the operation was done successfully. The mother was the donor and I managed to meet them in Kolkata where they stayed.
