Hello my fellow mylotters. So i wanted to ask how many people out there wear glasses. I would just like to know, an average of those who respond of course. Anyways, i don't actually wear glasses, but i think my eye sight is pretty damaged due to spending a lot of time in front of a screen (computer and t.v). I know that the longer i stay on the computer, the worse my eyesight would get. Anyways, unfortunately the time i spent, is spent. Although i can't see from that far, i don't want to wear glasses because i am afaid that my eyes will become lazy. So my friends, do you wear glasses? If so, where you born 'in need' of glasses or had to because of damaging your eyes? Thanks for your responses! - evydabest

I consider my glasses part of my face and feel naked without them. No, I wasn't born needing glasses but have had to wear them off and on since I was 10. At times my eyesight changed over the years. Due to my current age, I expect to have to wear glasses the rest of my life. I don't mind. Probably 90% of my friends also wear glasses.

Glasses are a need of those people keep readings. Old aged people also use the glasses as their eye sight becomes weaker and weaker with the passage of time. It means that glasses are very important to see the world and all around us properly. I wear glasses. I use to wear them for fashion in start. But now it becomes my need. I can not see some thing clear without glasses.

I wear glasses and they are prescribed. I have been wearing them for four years I only have a very slight vision problem. I can actually see far away I think I am nearsighted (where you things close up are blurry). I had not been wearing them all the time, but I have been reading, typing crocheting, ect.....so I think it is staring to cause a bit more issues. I have been getting a bit more cross-eyed actually when I look at things.

I didn't wear glasses until I was about 19 or 20, both my parents have bad eyesight and have worn glasses at some point, so it was inevitable that it would happen to me...but I try to wear contacts most of the time. I had a really expensive pair of glasses that was Ralph Lauren and ended up losing them, but I had them for like 6 years, so they had a good run, the ones i have now are the cheapest frames i could find, which was about 40 and they've never really sat on my face right, and now their crooked and fall off easy because one of the little pads inside them is missing :(

I do not wear glasses, but I probably will have to do in a few years I guess. My sight on my left eye is getting worser and worser each year.

Hi evydabest, I wear glasses because my vision has dteriorated due to my age plus the doctor said that I have cataract but it is too small to operate on. What I have experienced is that I can see but it dull, so for reading purposes I will wear glasses. I could some time ago boast of having 20/20 vision but this is now different. I think you should take care of your eyes' health in hand and if you are to wear glasses that you do so before you lose too much. I do not think your eyes can become lazy that is layman's talk. If you think that wearing glasses will cause you to look different wear one with the latest frame. Do not jeopadize your health.

I wear glasses, and I think they look pretty good on me. I wasn't quite born with it, but I did start getting problems with sight around the time I was in 4th grade. Since then, my eyes have gotten worse, but it's been incredibly slowly, and usually, my new sets of glasses are almost the same prescription as my last set.

Yes, I wear glasses now. I have to use it because I have poor eyesight now. Aside from computer and television my eyes been damaged 9 years ago because of my work. I spent 8 hours in my work and after work I washed my face then go to school. I've done it everyday with lack of sleeps.

Hi evydabest, I do wear glasses, I've had to wear them from the time I was a young child, I've always had trouble with one eye, being born early didn't help, I was born too early so that's one of the reasons I have a problem. I really need to go back to the eye doctor and get new glasses and a new prescription since it's been a few years. Your technically suppose to see the eye doctor at least once a year unless you have a problem but without health insurance I can't afford to go. I had to say for the visit and my glasses myself last time and it was rather expensive. My eyes actually had gotten pretty bad and I'm only 24 because when I was in school I hated wearing my glasses since other kids would make fun of me, I would struggle to see the chalk board. In school it wouldn't matter if I sat in the front row or the last row I couldn't see anything. It was so embarrassing if the teacher asked me something and it was right on the board but I couldn't see it. However, I didn't want to get made fun of, kids are cruel and I was really tired of it. I hope I can find a job or get some sort of health insurance soon considering I really should go, my glasses are quite beat up and I get headaches a lot as I need to have my eyes checked, my glasses are so beat up that I can't fix them anymore from pushing on my nose and than I kind of sat on them once so now one of the lenses is kind of out a little bit of the frame, it sucks big time. I could never wear contact like many people do now a days though, I could never see myself touching my eye all the time to change them or adjust them if I had a problem, no thanks. I'd rather stick to glasses which I do need for the computer, reading, watching TV and I was told driving, I still don't have my license though but I know I'd need them for that as well. I suppose I pretty much need them for everything but sleeping.

Your response sounds so familiar to me! I break glasses frames all the time, I had one pair that I wore for ages that were stitched together with elastic! I should get my eyes tested again havent done it for 10 years just changed the frames when they broke beyond repair with plasters, elastic etc!, they now are in kiddies frames the lenses have been cut so small ... just lucky to have a small face! I just cant afford new ones. Seriously though, the bit of your response that touched me deeply was your experience at school .. I was bottom of the class for many years until I finally started wearing my glasses in class, my scores went from bottom to near the top! I'm only sayin' this for people who are like me and were bullied for wearing glasses, you know the sort of names kids call you... which is why I hated them BUT forget those idiots, you cant let them ruin your education, its sooooo important... there is a reason why people think glasses make you look more intelligent! in my experience it was true - wearing them helped me get on better at school and college... wishing you a merry christmas time and new year, maybe santa will bring us some new specs! xx love ducatirose

Dear evydabest, I am from Hong Kong. I have been wearing glasses since 10 years old. It was 150 degree short sighted. After 30 years, I am now having 675 and 650 at my right and left eyes respectively. Deal to the change of shape of my eyeballs during adolecence, I had short sighted when I was 10. My eyes suddenly become 320 short sighted within a few months after the second time ( originally 220) of changing my glasses, as the optical shop made the wrong focuses on my lens. Then it damaged my eye sights. After that my mum changed a better optical shop for me, though I used computer quite a lot while working, the eye sight only got worse gradually after 450 degree short sighted. Now I am old enough to have another eye sight problem, but not short sighted anymore. I have been using contact lens for over 10 years. I am using those one-day type. I usually use glasses at home and when I am too tired. Some of my friends had the laser operation of their eyes to get rid of the short-sighted. Not everyone of them got a successful result. However, those harmful result could not be cured, such as afraid of sunlight, often have a lot of tears, or feel too dry. Therefore, I am not brave enough to have the operation. Have a nice day! agonyaunt69 (11:28pm 15 Dec 2009, Hong Kong time)

I have worn my glasses for 11 years, but I am very boring about this ,many people say that my eyes are beautiful, but it is a shame that they are covered! In addition,it is not conveninent wearing glasses, especially during the winter, once you go into a room from outside, there is fog on your whole glasses so that you can't see something clearly,I regret I have not protected my eyes carfully,if your eyesight is good, please cherish it,it is precious!

Hiya I have a trick for you to try stop the "fogging up" on glasses - rub a tiny bit of neat washing-up liquid over the lenses, (on the inside and out) this helps I've done it for years ... it also works on windscreens and visors! hope that helps hun xx ducatirose

Yes, I do wear glasses and I have worn them since I was 9 years old. I wear them now for reading and for seeing far away, but I find I can see the computer better without them. I have found that after I have been on the computer for a long while, my vision is blurred, but I was told that if I look away from the screen more often it won't be as bad. I also have drops by the computer so I can sooth them when I need to.

i too am one of many who wear glasses. i wear them because i guess i damaged my eyes when i was young. i watched too much tv while sitting really near it. as is the case with many young children. i had to wear them when i was young but it was not that bad then and i didn't wear it for like 3 years. but after that, i had to wear it as my eyesight was getting really bad and i was in my important year for exams. i thought that my eyesight would get better but it seems like i'm getting too dependent on my spectacles. without them, i feel really awkward. and my eyes really sting when i'm out in the sun sometimes getting teary. it is really a hassle wearing them at times as many know.

hi evydabest: I wear glasses through need and not because I like it. However, since its a part of my everyday attire, I select the frames, colors and everything that suits me best and helps me to look better. When you are forced to do something through necessity, make the best of it. Dont neglect your eyes, They are a very very important part of you, if not the most important. If you don't like glasses you can go in for contact lenses. That way, nobody would know you are wearing glasses. If you don't like contacts, go in for something really modern and fun and which enhances your looks. That way, people will look twice at you; not because you are wearing glasses, but because you look strikingly attractive. So go for it girl; don't wate another minute!

To wear glasses means you have to improve your eyesight by a tool, obviously it isn't a good thing, but unfortunately I wear glasses. Several points you mentioned are pretty good, and more disadvantages I had thought my life. Firstly, it's inconvenient for a pool eyesight man without glasses, you can't see anything clearly, and this situation will make your action slow or let you in some dangers; Secondly, glasses won't lift your eyesight all the time, in hot weather when you rush into a cold room, you will lose you eyesight immediately, of course there have other similar cases; Finally, to wear glasses will weak your eyesight steadily and you will have more dependence with them, surely you have to spend money to buy new ones.
