Some (people) using my SS #!!!!

I had no idea, figured this wouldn't happen to me since I don't have good credit or anything of value. Well my son had a review for his SSI and they were asking about places I worked in California, Japan, Nevada, etc. I have never been to these places, never lived there for that matter no less worked there. This sent a flag to the Social Security Administration and I had to go through a bunch of things, places I did work, for how long, basically to verify I am who I am. They said they didn't see anything reported to the IRS but I could call them and get this matter cleared, why yes I am going to call. Then got to thinking if nothing went to the IRS then these people probably are not paying in taxes but yet using my SS# for creditors, getting jobs and I want to make sure my but is covered and people are in trouble for using my number!! Has anyone else have this problem or Identity Theft?
