Ok, so I wanted to know how you all handle this kind of situation. I have several responses that were Hot topics for a while and get anywhere from 10-36 or more comments. On them, most are REALLY great and fascinating!! I want to award best responses, but I cant! There are so many. I kind of wanted to give it to those on the first page because they were the first ones to respond, but I am not sure still.... How do you give best responses when you have a lot? It is hard to choose just one. I don't want to NOT choose one, but if I have to, I won't because there are so many GREAT ones. [I always try to rate and choose best response and comment back, it's just me]

You already got several great ideas/responses about this issue, and how to deal with it, but how about just waiting a little more? If you already got several good or great responses, there is hope for an awesome one to come along. You could also flip a coin or roll a dice :)...

There is no telling when a late answer arrives, I like the names in the hat idea but requires more work from your part, and its usually more fun when those involved can be around... I could have said do straws or read the cards but I tryed to pick the fastest ways. Please don't hold it against me :).

That is why I will leave them up until there are no more responses at all, then decide. I could put names in a hat... :)

Normally, I cannot make a decision if it involves a discussion that has just been made. But if it's after a week or so, normally I am able to go through the answers and come out with a best response definitely. Sometimes I find it hard to choose between 2 or 3 answers; and I thought of playing mini more to choose the best, but it will not be fair, lol. So, I end up reading twice and thrice before I am able to come out with the best answer.

Lol, to tell you the truth, I haven't given a best reponse in almost 3 years. Before that, I don't think i did it all thatmuch either. I don't think it helps anyone earn more, I don;t think it earns me more and like you, i usualy have a very tricky time deciding which one is in fact the best response. I do sometimes wish they had the option of "worst response" though, i have seen some doozies.

Choose the response that best answers your Post, taking into consideration, interest, brevity, spelling, and grammar. Choose the response was the most interesting, while being at the same time, concise and to the point. myLotters will not usually take the time to read a long rambling response littered with poor spelling and bad grammar. Also to be fair to fellow myLotters, I do not pick the best response until at least a week after the Posting. This gives everyone a chance to make the Best Response.

I only can tell you what I do. When I have many good responses I award the best to the newest member, the reason being that I want to give them special encouragement so that they will continue here. Of course if i have one that stands out then I give it there.

That is a good idea, I never thought of that. I know I have only been here around a week or so and have gotten 2 best responses and it encouraged me so much more. Great imput! :D

Hi Savypat and Chelsgrrl69. I strongly agree with both of you. I have never realized this before. I'm also a new member. I've been here for just a month and I really feel happy and motivated to do better responses every time I receive a best response mark. I'll try to consider this in the future. Like you, I would like to encourage newer members to stay and enjoy myLotting. Thanks for sharing this idea.

I think it is always good to encourage new members. I know I [still being new] have already made several friends [such as savypat who I can always count on to respond in discussions :)] That is the whole point of myLot in my eyes, that is what keeps me coming :D

Hi chelsgrrl69!. It's great when you get a lot of responses to your discussions and it's sometimes difficult to decide who to give the best response to! I will tell you how I decide. I guess I look for the My Lotter that has made the most effort in terms of writing a response. I mean, I don't award best responses to short replies but rather lengthy one! I find that this is the easiest method for me and this probably wouldn't work for everyone as each and everyone of us is different. You're doing really well, up to 88 responses so far!. Anyway, I hope that this helps you! Oh! you are more than welcome to give me a best response if you wish!Andrew

I like how you slid that last part in. =] I just might, never know.... But, I will say that adding smiley faces to the response does add a little something for me.. I dont know if it is because they are cute and show character.. but I just like them :) I cannot use them yet, that is why I use the [ =,:,)] but I will be very happy when I can :)

I usually take a long time in giving a best response. I usually re read all the discussions before giving the BR. If I find a few responses are equally good, the first preference goes to my friends, otherwise, I also look for the younger members as well as members who have a lesser star rating, because, once we give a BR to these members, their star ratings also increase, in that way we also help these members. Of course the final cliteria will always be the quality of the response.

Great advice :) I never thought to give it to my friends also. I will have to keep that in mind, because I know when I did not have as many friends, my discussions usually went unnoticed, so it is because of them that I have as many conversations. Thanks for sharing! :D

oh yeah its really hard to choose one. but my style is, il be choosing the best response for that day the moment im about to sleep and log out. im sure that there will be more good responses the next day so the best thing that i think i can do is thank them for responding and praise the good response theyve just created.

chelsgrrl65 I come across that a lot and I read and reread the ones I think are best, then just go eeny, miney,mo I choose this one. The other one that should get a best response I tell them I wish mylot let us give two best responses so I could give you one also. Yours is just as good but I can only give one best' response, sorry. I think its still better to do that than not to choose at all. also I comment back to all the responses I get as I owe it to the ones who responded. thanks.

I try to comment back to everyone as well. It is hard at times, especially with such a busy schedule, but I really do try. Even if I cannot best respond to someone, if I think theirs is still really good, I will rate it with a +

I read them, I decide which are my favorites, and if one isn't clearly better than the other, I kind of go eeny meeny miney mo. But usually there is some little thing that makes me prefer one of the other, humor or something.

Hi chelsgrrl, well as it is utterly left up to us to choose I find no difficulty in choosing as if one response stands out and gets my attention most I then see if anything else comes along which bests it. I usually have excellent responses on mine and it is usual that one just stands out to me more, be it a one liner or a long one. Quite often too the responder will get it for a further comment after their original response so the first bit may not stand out but maybe their second or third comment did. The one thing I do dislke to see is a BR awarded to the longest response when it is obviously copied from somewhere but I never see those responses on my discussions, only other peoples.

Hi. I understand your dilemma. I've been in that situation several times. It's really hard to choose the best response if the are a lot of candidates to choose from. If there are several candidates for my best response award, I normally choose the respondent who have made several responses/comments to that particular discussion. Meaning, I choose the person who actually had a meaningful discussion with me. Personally, I think it will be unfair if you will just give the best response to the first page respondents. You will have to consider also that there are other myLotters who are myLotting on a different time zone. In the end, giving a best response mark is actually a matter of personal judgment and preference.

Thanks for the help. I did not see why giving to the first page would be bad, but you are right about time zones, I should have thought of that. And you make a great point about giving it to some one you actually have a discussion with. That is going above and beyond responding in my eyes. :)

When choosing best response I am giving time like 1 month before giving it when my topic is about life. Because I don't know much about life. When my topic is about a certain question, the first one who answered and he or she is very confident of it I will give the best response to that person. If the discussion about my problems, I give my best response to the person who really enlightens my mind. Whom I feel their response and they have similar experience as I am. Sometimes when my discussion is just a wholesome one , I give the best response mark to a response for me it is accurate and I can feel its response that comes from their deep brains and give it to me wholeheartedly. It really depends on my discussion.

There are several ways I decided. If I get alot of good responses I will usually pick the one who was the one to replied closer to the first. Another way if there are a few good responses, I pick the one who put more work into answering. I also will give it to the one who has the lowest rating of the bunch.

Just like you i even get lots of responses to the topics that i made, sometimes, i even gain 79 response on my topics. And just like you i am really having a hard time on choosing who will be the best of all, but may basis for that are, the response that the respondent created is very much close to the topic, very relevant, very close to my ideas of course cause i am the author of the topic and the active respondent, meaning the one who always respond meaning a discussion is being put up on a single response. Have a great day!

Whenever I award someone with best responses, I usually look at the content of the message and length. I would give a new comer a best response if they say something like "I agree" and that's all. I sometimes look at their other responses also.
