Been mistaken for someone else before?

I was wondering if this has happened to anyone before. For the first time ever, someone actually mistook me for someone else today. I was waiting in line at the bank and this lady thought that I was this daycare worker at the place she drops off her kids. So, she kept on trying to get my attention. Of course I wasn't paying attention because I thought she was talking about something else. I guess she got a bit annoyed after the fifth or sixth time so she came up to me and poked me. I was startled and the lady was greatly embarrassed when she realized that I was the wrong person. I just thought that it was a bit humorous because something like this has never happened to me before.

No it never happened to me, but I did that once. I was walking near our street when one lady I saw that I thought my sister. her back is like my sister even the length of the hair. So I walk quietly and when I got on her I jumped on her and shout at her like these "buyaga!" and when I saw her she was terrified. I was very very ashame of what i done and I just said sorry and leave her. Maybe she thought I was some kind of psycho walking. Lessoned learned and I never done it eversince.

Yes, that was superrrrrrrrrrr embarrassing, I never walk on the same street again, I am afraid to see her once more, I really don't the face to look at her.

Oh, that is actually hilarious. It would make for a good story later on. I almost did something like that once but luckily I decided not to at the last minute. It turned out that the person that I thought was my friend wasn't so I was glad I refrained from spooking her.

That is so funny! I'm seriously laughing out loud right now! I'm sorry though because I'm sure it was very embarrassing for you. I know I would be embarrassed if I did that to someone. It made a funny story for her to tell her friends and family though!

Oh yes, I have encounter the same situation before. I just board the bus from the bus terminal was happily seated when another lady board the bus and came waving at me when she saw me. For a moment, I felt very bad as I really have no impression of her face and I thought my memory was failing. (You see, I was in my mid 20s then). Then when she finally came very close to me, then I gave her that "Hm.. I don't think I remembered who you are look" and suddenly she realized (before we even spoke) that she got the wrong person and apologize to me and walk to the back of the seat. For a moment, I think it was quite a nice scenario as I seldom encounter such situation before.

She must have been really embarrassed by the situation. I would have used the avoidance tactic too if I was in her situation.

Yes, you are right. I feel as embarrassed too in that situation. But that was really just 1 time incident and so far, haven't encounter such situation again so it makes a deep impression about mistaken identity for me.

I've been told I look like this and that person but not actually had anyone think I was them. I have mistaken people though like when I was in school I dated thisguy who was really mean to me. He had transerred to another school. Well I was walking with some friends and I saw what i thought was him because of the clothing style. I said "OMG Not that jerk!" Then he turns around like "Excuse me?" and its a completely different person who was new to the school.

That's pretty funny that she actually got annoyed and came over and poked you! I was recently mistaken for someone else for the first time also. I was at the grocery store and some lady thought I was her friend's niece. Even after calling me Sarah (which is not my name) and having me tell her that she had the wrong person, she still kept reminding me of the party she thought she met me at. It was funny how she kept talking about it, even though she didn't even have my name right! She just kept focusing on trying to make me remember meeting her!

Haha...that is funny. I hope you were nice to her about it. I've actually seen a few people act really mean to a person just because they mistook them for someone else. It was an honest mistake but that person was going way out of line by telling them off and being really rude.

Yes, I was very nice to her about it. She obviously wasn't hearing what I was saying, but she was just trying to say hi to someone she thought she knew. It was pretty funny. I know what you mean though - I've definitely seen some people be mean to others for no real reason at all!

No that doesn't happen to me yet. But some said that they saw somebody else that looks like me somehow... Maybe up to the point of calling others name only (from behind) and when they saw me upfront, they will realized that is was not me at all... That is weird and funny too, imagine she really thought that it was really you... She even gets mad and approached you... That is really very embarrassing on her part... I am sure people near you too laugh at her quietly...

That or they were wondering what her problem was. The bank was pretty quiet that day and the people around us were looking at her strangely.

HAHAHA that is very shameful... That is a lesson for her to think first before getting mad and carried away... Be sure before reacting... It is really embarrassing to bark on the wrong tree...

Yes actually. Apparently there was some girl that lived in the same town as me that looked exactly like me. People would come into my work and start talking to me like they knew me and when I acted confused because I had no idea who they were, they told me they thought I was this other girl. Some people would come in and ask me if my sister was so and so, and I never had even heard of the person before. Also my best friend, Julia, looks a lot like me funnily enough. People often would think we were twins or sisters, when in fact we have no relation what so ever. One time one of my old boyfriends even went up and hugged my friend thinking it was me, haha it was bad.

Haha...that is funny. Luckily that has never happened to me before. It would just be too weird to live in a town with a few different people that looked like me. That is strange.

It is very strange. Girls my age seem to dress and do their hair the same though, so it may just be that.

I used to get mistaken all the time as someone else. There was a woman who looked just like me that was a waitress and stripper. Everyone would always assume it was me and I got accused of partying and sleeping with people I have never met before.

Ouch, that is harsh. That would actually be horrible. People probably wouldn't believe you if you told them that it wasn't you. They'd just assume that you were trying to hid so 'supposed' profession or something. I would really hate that kind of situation.

Hi, saizo. That happens to me on different occasions, too. I think there are a lot of ladies with this "beautiful" face, too. hahahahaha. Seriously now, it really happens. There are really people who look alike. I, for one, have mistaken someone to be a friend. I was so embarrassed when I tapped her on the shoulder and when I realized that she was not my friend, I apologized and was really embarrassed.

I've always heard about two people looking alike but haven't encountered it yet. Sometimes I might make a mistake based on hair color and style or clothing style but never the face.

It has happened to me but it was a little offensive. Me, being a very obvious female, was mistaken by a drunk guy as his male friend. When he came to me like "hey dudeee what`s up?" it took me a while to make him understand I wasn`t his friend... I hope it was just that he was too drunk.

You actually make an interesting point there. I don't know what the deal is but people tend to not want to believe that they are talking to the wrong person. It's like the idea of being wrong isn't possible for them. My friend had a similar situation. She was mistaken for someone else and when she tried to correct that person they actually went off and told her that they knew what they were talking about and that they weren't wrong at all. She was bewildered by the whole incident and ended up just listening to the person blab on and on for a while before excusing herself.

It's hardly happened to me. But I have mistaken so many people I don't know for people I do know! And it's so embarrassing when you're like, "James! What's up buddy?" and then you like have you're hand up ready for a high-five. And he's like, "Do I know you?" And you're like crap..

ive got the same situation before. A girl I dont know talked to me about something I dont know. I was like "hey, what's she talking about!?!?" then I say she might have talked to a wrong person. she went blue, and says her apology. I didnt felt bad about it. The feeling is just unexplainable.

That's something else altogether. That actually happens to me quite a bit. People have asked me if I was hispanic, filipino, and some guy even asked me if I was African American which was quite strange since you can tell I'm obviously of some Asian descent.

It's all good if everyone was a good sport about it. Unfortunately, not everyone is like that. I've seen people be really read to someone that mistook them for someone else before. It was really unpleasant and I felt bad for the person because it was an honest mistake on their part.

I really had same experience like this and i guess much worse than yours friend. I was also in queue at one of the fast food chain. I was busy selecting what food to order when someone poked me and when i look at her she talks with me with all assurance on her voice and asks me ,"hey, when did you gave birth, and what's your baby huh?" I was looking at her with amusement and then i smiled, have we met before? Then the woman say...oh,oh,and oh my...i am sorry,i thought you are someone i know!(ugh!!!) Whew,it looks funny and annoying,at least she admit her mistake.

Well, it was an honest mistake and at least she apologized to you. I bet she was really embarrassed though. If that was me in your situation I would have probably been sporting a dumb blank look.
