Last night Gone With The Wind turned 70! What a great film! I remember my mom telling me the story of when she saw it in the theater. She and her mom went but didn't know how long the film Really was. They enjoyed the film but they had to take a cab home because they missed their bus.I find it worth it!It is one of the first true epics. To think it was made in 1939, before computer images were used! And Ms. Leigh Was Scarlet. For a nice English woman to be known for being the best known southern belle. Most love Clark Gable but I will always be for Leslie Howard. Is Gone With The Wind one of your favorite films?

Yes it is. Not only for the movie itself but for the memory of seeing it with my grandmother. She had raised four children during the depression and had lots of hardships through her life. After the movie she talked about how Scarlet's "tomorrow attitude" helped her to survive. She and I were especially close when seeing this movie and that memory is precious to me.

Oh how wonderful! I cherish the times I spent watching a film with my mom.

Hi,sarahruthbeth22, it sounds interesting. It is really an old film, even older than me. :) I will see it later, not only for the content but for the skills they used in a film. I love epics, I think we could learn something in epics rather than imaginary romantic love story.

I confess I am not really into romantic films.
That same year an animated "Gulliver's Travels" came out. All hand-drawn non-computer animation, and also before Disney. Now THAT is a classic, in my opinion. And directed by Max Fleischer, who also gave us Betty Boop, and during 1941-1942 the classic Superman original animated shorts.
Orson Well's "Citizen Kane" came out two years later, I would be more excited with that 70th anniversary.
To each one's own, I suppose.

I like Citizen Kane too. Gone with the wind isn't my all time fave but I do like it . I love seeing Leslie Howard and Hattie, aka Mammy, steals each scene she is in . I'm glad she got the Oscar.

Yes!70!i like this movie very much,i totally watched nearly 10 times.
I never feel dull every time i watch though i know the plot.LOL!
In fact,i like the novel too, it is more detailed than the movie, let us know more about the history that time and more comprehensively describe all the characters. But the movie has its advantage,it is vivid, help us to remember the protagonist.
In all, it is one of the greatest movie.

Gone With The Wind is not one of my favorite films. I don't mean to offend anyone. I get that its a classic, I get that it got great revues. However, I am African American and its hard for me to look at Black people in roles of servitude. Although I'm glad for Hattie McDaniel being the first Black woman to win an Oscar. Its just to me, people say things about the "good ole days" which was the exact opposite for us (Afrian Americans). I know its probably not true, but it just makes me think white people just like remembering us in those servitude roles. Anyway, I think too much. I stil love everybody!

I understand. Hattie and Leslie Howard are the reasons I love this film.Hattie stole the show for me. Even though she was " just a maid" she was a strong black woman. But I do truly understand your feelings. Thanks for Responding.

Gone with the Wind is indeed one of my most favourite Hollywood movies. I’d read the novel while in school and from then on I had always wanted to see the movie. Of course we could not see it then as we wouldn’t have had parental approval in conservative India and there were not computers and DVD at home either…so I had to wait till I became an ‘adult’ LOL and the movie was repeated at one of the halls in my city and I just loved to see the saga, the romance, the heartbreak, the passion …everything came alive on the giant screen and my heart went out both for Scarlet and Rhett Butler (of course he remains one of my all time dream men!!!) and I’ll never forget the last line…so heartbreaking yet so endearing and romantic! I just love the movie and could see it again and again.

I read the book when I was 14 then saw the movie, it has been my benchmark for what a southern woman is all about, the genteel ways etc. I love it.

It's been 70 years already? Whew, that was fast... just last time I was in high school and girls were gushing about the book adaptation and then watching the movie on TV too. It's one of the most awesome story/movie ever and a good Literature subject, I must say.

It is absolutely one of my favorite films! I read the book first and when I got the chance to see the film I almost felt as if it lived up to the book.
The scenary of the film was just absolutely beautiful at times and astounding in others.
It is actually one of those films which grow on me. The more I see it the more I appreciate the actors, writing, etc. I also seem to notice something more each time I view it.
I agree with you that it is very interesting to think that this film was made 70 years ago with such quality.
As far as the actors were concerned they were all great! But my favorites were the stars, Clark Gable and Ms. Leigh.

Hi sarahruthbeth, I didn't realise it was was 70 years old, I feel like watching it again in celebration but the DVD player is broken.I read the book first and always loved the noble Ashley as Scarlet loved him for so long, and Leslie Howard did a superb potrayal. One of my favourite scenes is when Scarlet throws herself at him at Tara and he hands over the clod of earth and she promises never to throw herself at him again. An epic which has well survived.

It was a trip down memory lane.I saw this movie almost 38 years back before joining college.I had seen this movie during winter in Shimla a town in the northern part of India. What a movie that was. What acting .Clark Gable as Rhett Butler was tremendous not to mention Vivian Leigh's portrayal of Scarlet o' Hara.
Even during winter I thought it was a heart warming experience.

Hi Sarah..I heard that on the classic channel the other night and marked it so I could remember to watch it. It is in my top 10. Even with all the movie magic we have todaay it's one of those movies that there is nothing technology could do to improve on it.

Wow hard to imagine that this movie is so old and still seems so fresh .Even today when I think about the characters in that movie ,I think wow what a mix ,what a plot .I guess that is the mark of a good movie ,timlessness and like you said made a time without graphics and CGI and still here to date .I know of movies that were made in this century and they have already faded
