I have been discussing about if it would be called normal(in a sense), to never met the people who have been living beside for years? Is it impolite to never visit?

I've lived in the same house for 20 years and the only neighbors that I know are the family that lives right across the street. Although we're retired now, DH and I spent years leaving the house at 6am and not getting home until 7pm. Weekends were devoted to shopping, cleaning and yard work. We really didn't have the time to develop a relationship with our neighbors.

Well, I think it's not so normal for not meeting your neighbor next door for years. But I seldom meet the neighbors too, as I usually go to work very early in the morning and come home late at night. When I am at home, I seldom go out to my car porch too. My neighbors seldom go out from their houses too, hence we hardly get to meet each other. But whenever I get to meet any of my neighbors, I will just say hi to them. I don't think it impolite to visit the neighbors. Nowadays, people staying in city are not very friendly, some don't even say hi to you, or they just ignore you when you greet them. I don't know if this only happens in big cities, but back in my hometown, we know each other quite well.
