Bankrupt. Is it good or bad?

I am discussing with others about if being bankrupt is so bad. You can consolidate if not then bankrupt seems the way out. But if it the way out of life struggles or for the most, debt...Whjy is it talked of as so bad when many people take that choice? Is it bad or good?
