Hi, lezalga. I greet them back most of the times. There are times that I also just smile to them. This is especially so when a rush of people are in the door. I know that they are trained to do that and it is one of their responsibilities to do that. They do it because of their work. Sometimes, they even forget to greet you. But there are really guards or salespersons who are sincere in their greetings. With the greeting, they also smile at you.

If I'm greeted, I tend to say hello. I know that a lot of waitresses and waiters are overworked and I take my opportunity to treat them like people for a few seconds before they need to return to their servant role.

It depends on how my day is going really. And sometimes it depends on the greeter. Some times it is a person who I just want to say hi to and really greet. Other times the person just doesn't seem super friendly so I'll just smile hello or nod. when I'm with my kids sometimes I am in a rush trying to get the shopping trip over as soon as possible so I don't even notice the greeter. Unless of course we are at walmart and then we have to stop and see the greeter because they pass out stickers lol.
