when riding in a public transportation and being seated conveniently, then you see an elderly standing, do you give seat to them as a sign of respect and courtesy? i do that absolutely!

This is good to hear that there are still a few courteous people left. I have always tried to do this and now that I am old and crippled it is sad to see some of the disrespect that the young folks give to the handicapped.

thanks for replying sir manleyjoe, don't worry, there are still more people having respect with the elders. i just don't know if this trend of helping elderly is being done in the other countries other than the Philippines.

bus - the inside of a air-conditioned bus
Hi, lezalga. Yes, I always do. I feel that I can still withstand long trips on a bus standing. Elderly people are always given respect and courtesy in our country. We always treat them like that. There was a time when the bus I was riding in was overloaded and people squeezed in to get to their place for the All Souls' Day. A mother of two was standing on the side of my seat and I saw her two children squeezed in between people. I got the two children and had them sit on my lap until they reached their destination and went down. It was a happy feeling to do a good simple deed as that. It was an added nice feeling when the mother sincerely thanked me for it.

Yes, I certainly do. On the buses here in the city, there are seats reserved for seniors. If those seats are all occupied and if a senior comes on, I would immediately get up and offer the seat. The same when I am on a train, in a restaurant, or in a community hall too.

Hi! I haven't taken public transportation, but i do give my seat to my elders when i am put in that situation. It doesn't matter if i know them or not, it is how i was brought up, and that is how i do things. I think to not do it is a sign of disrespect, and to know that it would upset my parents because i have disrespected someone would drive me nuts.

this is the least we can do for our elderly.they have strived hard all life long to give us a comfortable life.so no matter who; every elder do command respect. so whenever i found an elderly standing i offer them my seat or if i am standing too. i do ask somebody young sitting to accomodate them.

Always - and this is a must! My heart could not bear it seeing an elderly standing on a public transport while I am conveniently seated. What if that elderly would be my grandparents, parents, or I myself when I get old? This is a basic courtesy we should pay for the elderly whether we know them or not.

Hi! Yeah I always give my seat to old people and also to the ladies who commute by public transport.I do it with an intention to help the elderly people to travel comfortably as you might be aware of the rush in a public transport like bus or train.Whenever I travel by train I have seen this as a policy of many fellow commuters to give their seat to others after a certain time and then the person who sits on the particular seat does the same again.I think its the duty of us youngsters to help the elderly persons and also it adds to our list of good deeds :).
