I am so happy. For the past three months I have been trying to participate in a cheap roof insulation offer where insulation is offered at £1 (about 75 cents US) a roll. I kept missing the deal by minutes. Today I managed to place an order and I am really amazingly happy and relieved about it. I have 18 rolls ordered now which will save me about 25% of my heating energy costs. Have you managed any good deal recently?

there was the time I went in with a $6 off coupon for glucosamine and the store had it on sale already at half price... That's about as exciting as it's gotten recently...

Speaking of insulation and deals...our gov't is giving a $1200 rebate for installing roof insulation. So there are companies buzzing about offering to do the work for us.
The batts are $40 a bag. My rebate would get me 7 bags. That's $280. (????? you might say.....think overheads)
They came today at 5:45 am. They took one look at the goats in the back yard and went up onto the roof from the front yard. I have a tile roof - yep - they were going to remove tiles to put the batts in.(big no-no.....tiled roofs have manholes for getting inside them)
They came down and took away most of the bags of batts again....Huh???
Turns out, I already have insulation (which means I'm ineligible for the offer) the stuff up there is very old and has been improperly inserted, it's also deteriorated but they went ahead and put 2 of the bags around over two of my 9 rooms. So they give me a dodgy job and rip the government off .....bet they are proud.

Over here the Government gives help to all irrespective of whether you have insulation or not. Certainly old insulation cannot be as a efficient and I am surprised that you don't qualify. Is a "Batt" a batten? I am not familiar with the word. But that does sound expensive. Shame on the installers for their half-hearted job (and fear of goats)!!

That's amazing! Do you put it on the inside of your roof, up in the attic? I plan to put some insulation in my attic in the spring. My house was built in 1923 when nobody thought of insulation!
I'm very glad you got your insulation cheaply. Could you list the name of it or supply a link so that I can see what it is and maybe get some for myself?
Patience and persistence are always rewarded!

The type that I am getting is rolled between the joists on the floor of the loft to a depth of about 8 inches. This keeps the heat in the house and severely reduces the amount that escapes into the loft. This may help:

How did you get roof insulation at £1 a roll, that is some offer.
My offer was from Tesco. I couldn't be bothered cooking and was in the mood for unhealthy, snack type food. They had an offer on party foods for Xmas which was one pack for £3 or two for £5. I fancied breaded mushrooms and potato wedges but not at £5. I went round the corner and found a Tex Mex platter for £3.50. This consisted of 75 pieces of potato wedges, breaded mushrooms and sweetcorn fritters. I didn't eat the sweetcorn fritters, they were horrible. So it meant I got more then double and saved money. Yey!

When I gave up work I went into overdrive to source the cheapest goods that I could without compromising on quality. For example I live in Wiltshire - Most of the milk delivered to supermarkets here is distributed by a company called Robert Wiseman. My nearest shop is Waitrose where I would have to pay £1.56 for 2 litres. If I go into town, a further 6 minute walk, the same milk in Poundland costs £1. The only difference is the label on the carton. I also subscribe to Martin Lewis's Money Saving website. That's where I found the insulation offer vie NPower and Build Center. I got lucky because I missed it twice before. I also do a lot of shopping at Lidl and Aldi. I refuse to eat chicken that is not at least free range. Sometimes at Lidl I can get a chicken big enough for 4 for less than £7 - I've never seen any free range whole chicken for that price in Tesco. Your bargain was a good one. Have you noticed that sometimes they sell individual packages/tins for less than the price of a multipack?

We just had our home insulated for free. Yes that is correct...FREE!!!
Well, kind of! We did not have to pay out anything, but the government do!
The Australian government have been giving away loads of things in recent times and up to $1600 per house for insulation was one of them. They have paying for peoples homes to be insulated as part of their economic stimulus plan. There have been loads of other rebates as well.
We also took advantage of another deal which was that eligible businesses could buy something tangible for their business and the government will pay you back 50% of that amount when tax return time comes around. We decided to buy a new computer and web cam.

Yeah, gotta get some of that tax back that I have paid over the years!
They also gave everyone who had put in a tax return for the previous year a $900 bonus to get people spending money again earlier this year.

Hi there P1ke that is good that you managed to get it this time
Nope I have not found anything lately that has been on offer or a good Deal
But I tell you something I will not be here next Winter no way as I can not stand the cold and freezing in this Flat, I don't even want to leave the Living Room as that is the only warm room and then it is draughty lol, so January is search time for a new Home with full central heating and not a Storage Heater lol

It wasn't especially recently, but it saved me a lot of money at the time and it continues to save me money today. In June of 2008 I won a new HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning system) for our house from one of the local HVAC outfits. The HVAC system that had been in our house prior to that was old and it had its issues, the new system is a lot more energy efficient so that saves us money to date and the fact that we didn't have to spend our own money on the system saved us money upfront.

I dont know what is insulation and I probably would not have responded had I not read through to the last line of your post. about having good deals recently. I recently won $50 worth of vouchers from Popular bookshop. Just about time too as I was looking to buy an external harddrive for my laptop and now I can do so with the $50 off and I can get a good harddrive and pay $50 less for it. So i guess that is a good deal for me!

If I lived in Singapore then I wouldn't worry much about insulation. My brother in law lives there and when we went it was keeping cool that bothered us, not keeping in the heat. Insulation is a fibre wad that lies in the roof space of a house. This helps to keep the heat in the house in winter. Your lucky win sounds like it has come just at the right time.
