Has owning a pet ever come between a relationship?

I am an avid pet owner. I love my pets and they are like family to me. But I have recently been married and had to rehome 5 cats and a dog. I had had them all for ten years. I was permitted to keep one dog, but my husband struggles with how I feel about my animals. I miss them all terribly but feel I have a good marriage. My pets have previously got in the way of me having relationships and I've had men break up with me when they find out how many pets I have. Have any of you ever had relationship problems because of a pet?

I have never faced this situation but i see how things can be complicated. I really wish your husband was more caring. It is not nice to have to choose. I hope that at least you had the option of leaving them with good friends or in some animal shelter.

It's not my husband that doesn.t permit me to have the pets, but the landlord only allows one cat so my husband is actually sneaking the dog in for me. I made the decision myself to rehome the animals and they all got homes with my friends and I still get to visit them but I was talking about how they had previously got in way previously and it was a hard decision to make to rehome them because I wanted to marry my husband and live with him.
