There is a midnight mass in our city too.It is held in the largest church in Kolkata called St.Paul's cathedral and is a beautiful event attended not only by Christians but followers of other religions as well.It has a great atmosphere and I love to attend it though I am not a Christian.

In our place, there was a midnight mass during the 60's 70's and 80's. It was celebrated at exactly 12 AM. But after those decades, the supposed midnight mass at 12 AM changed its schedule to 10 PM so that after the mass that usually ends in an hour and a half, the church-goers are ready for their noche buena at around 12 AM of Christmas Day!
We also have our Dawn Mass or commonly called Aginaldo Mass (or Simbang Gabi in our vernacular) at 4 AM. Again during the past decades Aginaldo Mass was celebrated early at dawn at around 4AM or 5AM to some churches. As far as I can remember, there was no mass at 7PM in our place but now, one can opt to attend Simbang Gabi instead of going out on an early cold morning for the dawn mass.

I hate to answer'"yes" to this question, but I'd be lying if I didn't. I don't like to admit it, but we do. I used to spend the hours before fighting with my parents to let me take a blanket. I wasn't as much a night owl back when we used to attend, and all I wanted to be able to curl up. The church was cold, along with my body for being up so late. In fact I'd even fallen asleep during it several times before. The mass would start exactly at midnight and end anywhere between one and three in the morning. Seeing as how most services I slept through I wouldn't alwayts pay attention to the time when we climbed back in the car to go home.
I do know getting me to go to bed after usually was never a problem. I'd go streight to bed no questions asked.

Hi flower!!! Yes, midnight mass is a traditional celebrations in the Philippines. as an episcopalian, it is also our practice in the church to celebrate dawn masses at 4 in the morning and we call this the Simbang Gabi or the Misa de Gallo. And this is in preparation of oneself to reflect on the coming of Christ. Here, it is a joyous celebration because after the mass we stayed for an early breakfast eating our famous puto bumbong, suman and other native delicacies.
