Way too early to discuss? Anyway, in our area, when new year's eve arrive, many are making loud noises like cans being dragged by vehicles along the road. Others wear polka dots clothes in order for their next year to be fruitful? Others buy and display round fruits like watermelon, melon, oranges, etc. on their tables to get more blessings for the upcomimg year. Others scatter coins all over the house and stock up coins inside their purses and pockets as to invite and maintain luck. Sweeping dusts on the floor are forbidden since the "luck" will go away.

You don't believe that a New Year is a fresh start where you can make resolutions or promises to make your self a better person? I believe greatly in karma it is not just a superstition anymore it is science. Watch some videos on Quantum Physics and you will believe a few "superstitions" also. The mind is a powerful thing. People heal with their mind in some countries, it's for real.
Now as far as the jumping to grow taller, yes like they said I am sure it got a few kids excited about New Years but it probably wont work. But then again I believe anything is possible. Maybe if you thought it hard enough.

Well, although it happens every year in our country, I don't believe in superstition when New Year arrives, it is we who can determine and make our life depending on what we do. Although this may help some, good for them if they could make their lives better but for the most part, life is matter of choice, this is what I firmly believe.

I agree with Natnickeep about New year being a fresh start. It is a good way to psyche yourself. New year, new start. Of course, any one can start a resolution any time of the year, but doing it in this particular season or moment has a certain charm to it that makes it very appealing. If one doesn't believe in New Year's resolution as a superstition, you can just think of it as a state of mind to motivate yourself into keeping it (the resolution).

Mabuhay Philippines! In celebrating New Year's Eve we are preparing twelve rounded shape fruits in the dinning table to welcome a progressive twelve months of the coming new year.

Some said that if you jump on exactly 12:00 am of January 1, you'll get taller. I did this when I was small and now....I'm still small...lol...What a way to get children excited for New Year. hehe. Some says wearing red means luck. Hang a grape fruit on the door, also means luck. And making noises would make the bad spirits go away. I do all of this, because its been a tradition and because its fun. lol.

The big thing for us here in the us U.S. is New Years resalotions or promises to do something different for the coming year. such as lose weight, join a gym, etc. If you devate for just one day then it's broken and the resalotion isn't complete. Often on new years eve families get togeather and discuess what their reslotions are. But, that's about it.
They do however, drop the ball in time square in new york every year, but that's more of a tradition.
