Hi friends!!
Nowadays there are too many movie critics rising up and giving their valuable insights on the current movie releases lol.Normally nowadays we get the critics review about a particular movie the very next day of its release due to which we can gauge whether the movie is a piece of trash or worth watching.I normally do wait for the critics review if I want to see a movie but m not sure whether its good but for some movies I don't care what the critics has to say,if the movie looks promising to me I go for it.I just wanted to know whether you enjoy reading critics reviews in newspapers.Do their views matter to you when you decide to watch a movie or you just go trusting your instincts related to the movie??

Hi aadi, I guess between the newspaper reviews and critics reviews I would vote for the later . But I am really not interested in watching films now esp the new films, which tend to be soulless and boring. It is hype and glitz thats all, and the music the lesser said the better....I do make it a point to read the critics reviews just to see how bad the film is from their point of view..

Hi!!
I don't agree with you on the new films being boring and crap, there are several new attempts being made by the new film makers which is appreciable. Also the critics don't always pan a movie, they appreciate the good ones which we term as meaningful cinematic movies.

The only reasonably good film I have seen in the recent past is Parineeta and Taare zameen par.....I saw dhoom on recommendations and found it the worst movie ever made.I would rather watch an old black and white classic than any of the new films...No doubt technically they are superior, but otherwise , absolutely plastic

I'll listen to what they have to say and maybe read a few reviews but they really don't carry alot of weight with my decision to see a movie. There is one guy that if he hates a movie it's almost a given I will like it. Critics told me to go see Titanic that it was an epic..I didn't like it at all really.

Hi!!
I really agree with you on Titanic, its not my favorite too although many consider it as the ultimate love saga :O.I too have contradictions with the critics in case of some movies like Transformers which is one of my favorites where the critic gave it a mere 1 star and called it a nonsense flick.

I usually trust my instincts and I don't trust critics at all. I just don't like reading their reviews.
I used to like one critic before who was pretty good and honest with his writing and I used to trust him a lot. But, ever since he stopped writing on msn, I haven't been reading any other reviews much. I just go by instinct or by what people have to say about the movie. But even that doesn't help most of the time. Most of them just go for entertainment rather, see if the film has been made to perfection and if there is any good quality art involved.
So, my opinion is that the audience is the best critic and you are the audience.

Hi!!
Yeah obviously its the audience reaction that determines the fate of a movie but still for me the critics reviews do matter many a times when m not sure about a particular movie.I read reviews from 2-3 newspapers and if all those critics seem to be giving the same reasons for the movies being trash or good and not giving mix reactions then it becomes easy for me to opt for that particular movie.

To a point...
If I'm interested in a movie, I don't care what the critics say. And if I'm not interested, nothing they say will make me go. But if I'm on the fence a review may help me make up my mind whether to go or not.

Sometimes that happens to me too. I'll see a really glowing review and then I'll go see a movie I wouldn't have otherwise. But if it's on a topic that just doesn't interest me at all, I don't care how good the review is.

Hi!!
Yeah same case as mine but there have been movies which I wasn't interested in watching first up but after reading the reviews I did watch them and most of the time I found them really good.So the critics reviews do work for me most of the time :),thanks for your response :).

Well, I do read the critics reviews but I usually don't let it bother me when deciding to watch a movie or not. I just enjoy reading what some of them have to say about whatever movie it is they are reviewing. Saying that a movie is bad won't really turn me off it. If anything, I'd be more curious and wanting to see it just to see if it is as bad as the review says. It all comes down to our own preference and taste though. What someone might find good or bad might not be the same as what we perceive as good or bad. So, even though I read reviews on movies it doesn't matter to me. If I think a movie is interesting I'll go see it no matter what.

I never read the critics, as they're subjective and only show the opinion of that person in particular. We people have all different opinions, so I can't tell if mine will be the same or not. That's why I don't read the critics and if I want to see a movie I just watch it.

Hi!!
Yeah it seems to be the opinion of that particular person but its made by someone who has knowledge about films and so their views do matter to me when planning to watch a movie. If m very much interested in the movie and want to see it what the hell maybe I will go for it for example movies like Transformers,Harry Potter,2012,etc,etc.

Hi!!
Yeah it happens with me at times too but I still believe in critics as the judge the movie in a broader aspect whereas we just go in for entertainment and if we are we like the movies. There are various comic movies which I have enjoyed watching but at the same time were trashed by the critics as they don't find it as meaningful and sensible cinema(not for every comedy movies)and they feel these movies are more of gimmicky.

They matter if I question whether or not to see a movie. For example, with "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs" the previews had me questioning whether or not to see it. The critics said it wasn't bad, and I'm glad I saw it. It is not a bad movie.
It used to be I would see anything that was animated. I have to keep in mind though to stay away from sequels. The only sequels I liked were the Spiderman sequels. Disney released a "Return to Neverland" that was dismal. Ice Age "Meltdown" was disappointing, though I didn't mind "Dawn of the Dinosaurs" I will never go to another Madagascar sequel though.
So before I plunk down the $10 ($5.50 actually, I try to go to the cheaper matinees) to experience I now at least read what the critics say. With the internet I can get a variety of reviews and get a sense of what to expect. Having multiple reviews is the best. I remember in 1990 when "Home Alone" came out. Another episode of Nightmare on Elm Street came out the same year, and the newspaper's movie critic (San Jose Mercury News) trashed "Home Alone" and gave high marks to "Nightmare" - I never relied on one movie critic ever again.

Hi!!
Yeah I do check in reviews published in most of the newspapers to decide whether there are mixed reactions among the critics or almost everyone has praised the movie or trashed it.M a huge Spiderman and yeah the sequels of it were amazing and the best for any series which had trilogies or quadralogies.Thank you for your well explained response :).

I rarely agree with the critics' reviews so I ignore them for the most part. I listen to trusted friends' reviews and I pay attention to the actors/directors/writers and whether or not it was based on a book or TV show or something else that I am familiar with. Then I decide from there.

Hi!!
Many of my friends do believe in the critics reviews so if a critic trashes a movie most of the time our plans of watching a movie are cancelled :(.If the movie is based on a book that m familiar with for example Harry Potter,The Chronicles Of Narnia,Twilight or Lord of the Rings then the critics don't matter to me as I always see this movies on the first day itself before the reviews are out lol.

i like reading and hearing reviews, but it doesn't make my decision.it's just different to hear how other people saw the movie, how they perceived it. they didn't see it through the same eyes, heart, and mind that i did.so it's a beautiful thing to be able to read, hear, or listen to others opinions about movies and knowing what emotions it did and did not trigger in them and comparing it to how i saw it.

Hi!!
Yeah if I happen to watch a movie a day before the critics reviews are out I love comparing my review with the critics and many a times m in sync with their reviews. After reading the critics reviews it just makes the situation simple for me to decide whether the movie should be watched in a cinema hall or at home.

No I do not read the critics reviews on any movies that are to be release. I watch the preview when they are shown on television and decide for myself if I want to go see the movie or buy it at the store. I also read the back of the cartons that a movie comes in which helps me a little. Just because a critic does not like a movie does not mean I will not like it.

Hi!!
Well its good that your decision about a movie aren't influenced by critics reviews and you go for movies that you think are worth watching as per your instincts. Its true that its not necessary that I would not like a movie if a critic trashes it but many a times the reviews do influence my decision.

i think that critics reviews can effect my dicision to watch movie, actually lots of movies i could not decide to which one i watch,i could not spend my all of time to share every movic,i think that reviews from critics should be right, otherwise he could not give this critics, sometimes i can watch a movie depending my instincts.because some of movics from critics revwiews are not fit for me.

I do like to look at critics' reviews of movies. The two main things that get me interested in seeing a movie are the trailers and the reviews. If I see a trailer that looks really cool, I'll look in my newspaper or look up online reviews of the movie to see what the critics say. I don't let the reviews totally shape my perception of the movie, but they do influence it.

Hi!!
Yeah rightly said,if a movie's trailer seems good to me but still m not sure whether its worth watching or spending money on I turn on to the critics reviews so that I can ultimately decide whether the movie deserves to be watched at a cinema hall or at home in front of the PC.

yes, critics' reviews matter to me and it should matter to you too. it isn't practical today to go watch a movie, and find out that it's a big disappointment. not only is it a waste of time, but also a waste of money, which i believe could be better spent on a better movie positively acclaimed by critics. however, it all comes down to subjectivity - what a critic likes or dislikes may not be necessarily the same for viewers. critics' reviews or no critics' reviews, it is up to you to decide if you want to watch the movie or not.

yes, its nice that we get the movie review just the very next day of its release.i thoroughly enjoy reading the critics review.though i am not much guided by their views because my going to movie depends entirely on my free time and friends available.

Hi!!
Well having a free time, that's another criteria.Even I go for a movie when m free and when my whole lots of friends are ready to come. Its not as if a critic praises a movie and I run for it lol :).I just wanted to know whether your decision of watching a movie partly depends on the critics review of the movie.Have a good day, enjoy movies:).
