I had been hearing for awhile that people on socail security like me would not get a raise on their checks in 2010. I was hoping the story was wrong. Everything goes up but your earnings. Today i received notification that i would be drawing the same thing the next year that i have been drawing, I think that quite unfair because when u go to buy anything anywhere it sure goes up. Let me know what u other people on s/s think about this. Isn't it a crock??

I think u are right. Know that people are worse off than i am & i feel sorry for them. Where there's a will there's a way & i have been at it a long time. I would like for all of us to be treated fairly tho.

Yea, it's a crock alright. We can barely live on what little we all get as it is...what the heck is $250.00 going to do...here today gone tomorrow...lol It's a sad world we live in. I can't believe in this day and age and all we know and have that people on ssi are way below poverty level. It just disgusts me to even think about. I can barely wait till I can return to work...it really stinks being so poor all the time and now another year or being even more poor...if that's possible.
Brightest blessings,
Mari

Hi Mari, i wish i could still work but those days are gone. I hope u get to return to work. It's a shame we aren't getting a raise when the cost of everything is higher every time u go to the grocery or wherever. thanks for your response. Merry christmas.

Hi ANTIQUELADY,
It is happening everywhere, it seems they just want to make the richer, richer and the poorer poorer. We had our recent budget this year here and they are going to cut social welfare payments by 11 Euro a week, which is a lot for most and they are not giving out a Christmas bonus this year
Even in my job we have taken pay cut after pay cut and the way it is looking this side of the pond there will be lots of strike action

Yes sometimes with strikes it feels as we are fighting a losing battle sometimes. i do count myself very lucky to still have a job in the current climate, even though I still find myself struggling to pay the bills sometimes.
If I don't get to talk to you before then, I hope you and yours Have a very Merry Christmas and A Happy New Year

Yes you are absolutely right. My letter stated that since there was no cost of living increase..there would be no cost of living increase on our disability checks. What I would like to know is...just what planet are they on! Everything has gone up this past year. Groceries are outrageous, and gas is still up and down.Heck, the minimum amount just to get gas for heating is 200 gallons which is over 500 dollars. I do agree it is a total Crock!!!

Katie, hi! Love your picture (your gorgeous landscape)--where is that place?
I think the idiots who haven't noticed the cost of living has skyrocketed are on the same planet where ants & elephants have switched sizes! And, yes, I have been to your profile, which is where I got that reference! Ha! I wanted to see a larger version of that pretty castle(?), so I checked out your posts.
Welcome to the MyBot zoo, here! It's a great place to meet friends & make a little extra pocket money! Go check out my profile, & if, after viewing my posts, you think I'm the sort of person with whom you'd get on well, then let's be friends! If my general run of topics isn't to your tastes, then don't worry--no harm done if you'd rather not. But it doesn't hurt to look!
Yours,
Maggiepie

Hello Antiquelady
That certainly is not a good thing and I am sorry about that
I am on Disability here in the UK and every year in April they increase it not much but every little Helps
I can not see how they can justify not giving you more when as you say prices are rising all the time
Is there nothing you can do about it or nothing else that you can claim to top it up

That is terrible
I worked till 6 years ago I worked for 30 years
But I think it is terrible that you have worked all these years and will not be getting your bit of a Raise, no doubt like here in the UK you have People there that have never worked claiming money and they get it and no doubt the Raise to
I do not know how they can justify this to you as things are rising in prices

Good morning, dear Lady! Feel like a "fish out of water" here...but I truly DO NOT know what Social Security is? I am guessing that it is something like our "SEnior's Pension?" Even tho' our government says they are cost indexed, it sure doesn't seem to be reflected on an even par with the increase in Cost of Living. I think you have to be a government employee for the true COL to be reflected in your income...COL goes up 8 %....so does our MLA's salaries (like your Senators) but anyone receiving government subsistence gets about 1%!
Sorry Santa (the government) presented a "bah humbug" present....but there is something to be thankful for in Canada! The government is warning that they are broke, and there will be NO "pension" SOON! HUGZ & LUV!

Good morning to u. glad to know u are back home. Hope your day yesterday wasn't too bad. I'm sure it is like your pension. We have s/s/ taken out of her wages from the day we start working so it's our money to start with. U have to be at least 62 years old to start drawing which i did. I started drawing in jan. & had the stroke in june so that's all the money i had coming in since i had to quit work after the stroke. I hope when u can draw your pension it will be available to u. Thanks for respoding. love ya!

Well it all depends the kind of job you have and the way things are going at your work. I'm sorry if you didn't get a raise. Okay if its online um...that I don't know. LOL....I don't know about that part because I don't much work online to receive money.

Hi Aunty, it's ridiculous for them to keep the payment the same when they need to be linked to inflation if nothing else. Of course if they followed current inflation rates you'd be getting a huge increase.
I don't receive anything but it looks as though those who do here will actually be having a reduction as Greece has managed to make the biggest financial mess of any other country in Europe.

I don't think the u.s.a. has been to smart either when it comes to managing their money. They want to give it all away to other countries & to hell w/the people here is the way i see it. AUNTY

Yes, I think it's a crock, too. I get SSI every month and I will be getting paid the same thing I've been getting. Like you, I wish our earnings would go up since everything else is going up. How is Ryan doing these days? I bet he's looking forward to a good Christmas, isn't he? He's so cute! Kathy.

I totally agree with you. How do they except you to continue with the same check amount of this year when every time you go to the store everything has been raised in price. That along with gas and utilities its totally ridiulous and not fair. However thoses big guys that retire from congress and senate don't have to worry about a thing. They get the same check they were getting when they were working and they have their medical bills taken care of too. Something is definitely wrong with this picture.

Oh, yeah. Major crockery, considering how they're spending trillions on crud that doesn't matter, & that line's political fat cat's pockets...but then what do you expect from D.C.?
On the other hand, in January, I go from $50 in food stamps to $71! Amazing! Between that & Meals On Wheels, I actually have a food budget now!

Believe me, I really needed a raise! I was getting only $50 a month, & that & Meals On Wheels (6 a week) were all that I had! Now if I can just find some job or other, I can let go of both! I could even afford to donate a bit to M.O.W., so that food can go to someone needy, & I can get out of everyone else's wallet!
And thank you! I will have a wonderful Christmas when it arrives; I always do! It's the same day as my birthday--January 6th! (My faith, Eastern Orthodox Christianity, uses the old Julian calendar, not the one everyone else in the Western world uses, i.e., the Gregorian one. This means I get 2 Christmas celebrations! Hee! )
And may you have your merriest Christmas ever, & an awesome 2010!

Not only do we get no more money in our social security checks, but the word is out that My husband will not receive a cost of living adjustment on his military retirement check, either. That is not official, yet, but we received the info from a usually reliable source.

Santa Uncle Sam sometimes doesn't get it. I am also on a fixed income and literally work my crippled fanny off trying to earn a buck that doesn't kill my body but stretches the income to cover meds. I don't have insurance and cannot get medicaide, so I just put me-self in the hands of God and do the best I can.
Loves you!

I certainly wish u the best, Karen. I'm sorry u can't get some help, that is ridiculous u can't. I have medicare which they take out nearly a $100 a month out of my check plus i have a supplement that has just gone up but it's still cheaper than regular ins. which is absolutely ridiculous in price. I know it worries u not having insurance. love & hugs. jo
