My Dog ate a Sparkler Bomb!

Max, the Dalmation - Our silly dog Max

It's quite true. About two months ago, my step son was into making sparkler bombs, a dangerous exercise in my opinion, but his father let him. He would get all these sparklers & scrape off the explosive stuff. He would use, say, an empty toilet roll, and alfoil and creatye a fancy design. He would put the sparkler explosive bits and put it inside the contraption he made. This night, he had made two of these bombs. He put one on the rail & the other he set up and lit, with the usual dramatic results. Just at the end of the "explosion" I happened to look to the side, and saw that Max, our dalmation had knicked something off the rail and was chewing it. I shouted out that Max had the bomb. My stepson chased him around, calling out to drop it, which is kind of useless because Max thinks we are playing chasey & he wont obey any instructions to drop anything. So I rushed up, stuck my hand in his mouth and forcibly pulled the renmants of this bomb out of his mouth. It was obvious by then that he injested some of it. My ex hubby had to rush him off to the late night emergency vet, and they made him vomit it out. THere were no side effects. It sounds a funny story, but when I look back, I think how stupid and dangerous it was. Here is a photo of Max.

I am so happy he is OK. I do not think too much of a father who lets his son make bombs of any any type. IMO that is not teaching him a very good lesson. Lucky it was not fatal for Max. Years ago I had a beautiful Doberman Pinscher and an Irish Setter. Unfortunately my neighbor hated my doberman Tana who was a wonderful dog so one night he tossed some of the old fashioned type light bulbs, used for the flash in cameras, over the fence. Both dogs through it was a game and crunched these little very thin glassed bulbs then came into the house and I saw their mouths were bleeding. I called my vet at home and he told me to feed the dogs as much bread as I could until he could come and open the practice. Thank goodness both dogs were saved. I was so angry I could not prosecute my neighbor as I had no proof it was him.

God, that makes me sick, what some people do. How very cruel. Hope this man is still not your neighbour. Yes, I wasnt impressed with ex hubby letting my step son making those sparkler bombs. But he didnt want to refuse his son anything, in case he didnt wantto visit hiom anymore.

I am a 4foot 11in female diabetic amputee in a wheel chair (3/4 of my right leg is gone, so I have a prosthesis. as a matter of fact I have two). If any of my neighbors had done something like that to any of my three Pitbull puppies (littermates), I would show that neighbor in great detail how it is indeed possible to break one's foot off up in someone's a** ... and I have the luxury of LEAVING IT THERE. NO ONE F**KS WITH MY PUPPIES.

HOW OLD IS THIS STePSON. If he is under 16, that is child ENDANGERMENT and can be charged as such. I'm surprise the Vet didn't call the police department and tell them what happen, since he didn't he is not a very good Vet, is he...Your husband and stepson should be charged with Reckless endangerment n animal cruelty... REMEMBER ALWAYS LUV/ CARE FOR YOUR DOG/ PET, THEY WILL ALWAYS LUV U...

My step son was just under 16 at the time. I suspect that when my ex hubby took the dog to the vet, he didnt tell him the whole truth.

Well at least it wasn't lit at the time...Ouch. I've seen where dogs have eaten some pretty crazy stuff. I remember one show where a dog had swallowed a cell phone. His owner dialed the number when looking for the phone & his dog started ringing. I'm afraid of what the puppies at my house are getting into now...

I suppose the vet had to operate to get the cell phone out.

Well, no. Actually, he is not 100% dalmation. He has some other breed in him.

Yes, it was a relief that no serious damage had been done to max.
