Did you know That sweet potatoes do wonders for your skin? I just read that it had huge amounts of betacarotene and also of vitamin C.The artickle says: "helps combat rough, scaly winter skin. And the nutrient may protect against UV damage, too." Maybe it is the moment to start eating them more. I love to have them on the side of a baked pork instead of potatoes. And almost anything that calls for potatoes can be changed by them.
Do you eat sweet potatoes? In what ways do you prepare them?
Take care!

Hi friend,
I will buy some when I have a barbecue and cook them in the fire. It´s a wonderful idea. I do that with potatoes many times. I wrap them in foil (so they don´t get dirty with the coal) with their skins. They are very nice and as I don´t add salt they are more healthy that way.

I am so glad you started this discussion! I used to make a beef stew using sweet potatoes and haven't done it in a long time. I made it similar to regular beef stew, only adding sweet potatoes instead of regular ones. Then I put in beans (red or black), green beans, corn and tomatoes. (can't have enough 'toes'). For seasonings I used chili powder, cumin, a bit of oregano and salt and pepper.
It's a visually appealing dish with all the different colors, and a little different than what most people are used to. Hmmmmm....I think I'll make that tonight. Thanks!

I remember that when I was little my granma made a sort of jam with them. She mashed them and added sugar and boiled them until thick. Then shw molded it letting it dry for a couple of weeks and we´d eat slices with bread.

They are sweet but not so sweet that you can´t make a main dish with them. Try them. They don´t belong to the potato family.

I did not know this, Do you mean sweet potatoes are dangerous for health then. I usually boil them and have them with milk. In my village my mother used to put sweet potatoes in firewood in earthen stoves and they tasted very delicious. You can also make halwa and bread with sweet potato. But anyway we do peel off

What I said is that they are very healthy, specially for our skin as they have betacarotene. Keep on eating them.

I love sweet potatoes. I eat them baked, boiled, and in the microwave. My daughter makes them on special occasions by slicing them and adding molasses, orange juice and cinnamon. She cooks it all in a pan until the sweet potatoes are soft. They are good and I know they are good for us.

Interesting post. I had no idea that they could help your skin, I knew they were better for you than white potatoes though. Unfortunately, I hate the taste except in sweet potato casserole. I guess I will have to find ways to make them so that I and my family will eat them.
Thanks for the post!

Hello
Aw! i love sweet potatoes. What we do to prepare it is to boiled it until cooked and pair with salt. Or spread some butter on top of it. It's best to eat it when hot.
My Mother also friend it with brown sugar. Serve with coffee. Thanks for sharing sweet potatoes benefits. I actually dont know its positive effect to skin. Great to know...
