I am going to visit my daughter and am going to take my laptop. Since she and her children are not into watching TV or using a PC she does not have cable. Can someone please tell me if I can use a dial-up connection on a laptop? I just purchased a new one, a Toshiba, the first of this kind. I usually get HP but this was such a great price I couldn't let it slip by. I can use it at any place that has Wi-Fi without having an air card but I don't know if I can use it with Dial-up. Please let me know ASAP if you know anything about laptops and dial-up connections. Thanks, Kowgirl

As long as the laptop has a dialup modem, you should be able to. does she have a dial up account you would be using while there? Thats going to be a must too. Maybe you'll luck out and there will just be an open wireless hotspot somewhere in range you can just latch on to.

yes! with the wireless phone, be sure that you connect the handset charging cradle on to your laptop's modem. just like the way you connect an ordinary phone into your laptop's modem. with the mobile, use the usb connection. be sure to have the mobile's usb cable that comes with it upon buying it.

You can check your laptop ports. If it has RJ11 port (Phone line port) then you can plug your telephone line and dial your ISP to start internet. But if you don't have, then don't bother to use a dial up since it is very slow. Alternatively, you can look for hotspot area or use a broadband modem instead for this. Where do you live by the way?

We both live in Florida, she is about 500 miles from where I live, up the west coast of Florida and I am in Central Florida. By the way, I didn't even have time to remove the laptop from the box it came in...

just look at your computer and try inserting the phone cable in a port on your laptop. if you find a port that has the same size and the telephone cable fits perfectly then you can use a dial up connection for your laptop. Just make sure that there aren't many incoming calls because that will cut your internet connection.

Of course every laptop has a dial port. This is ONE OF the basic needs for a laptop. It's either Wireless or dial-up. The older version only have a dial- port but now there's wi-fi. Just connect the jack into the laptop and set up ur connection.

You absolutely can go online through dialup with a laptop, but you'll need to make sure your laptop has a modem first. If it doesn't, you could get an external modem...they're usually very easy to setup on PCs. It might not seem worth it to buy a modem just for a short time, but you never know when it might come in handy in the future.

Hi kowgirl I going to add a little here. When you have a dial up it goes thru the regular phone line. Meaning while you are on the computer then the phone won't ring. Also your daughter has to have internet service to get any kind, even dial up. If she doesn't then you won't be able to get on the internet. You can go to McDonalds or some place like that and pick up intenet if you need to. Have a good visit with her. Be safe and keep smiling.

Yes, of course you can use your laptop with dial up connection. I do it all the time lol. And nope you do not have to buy a dial up modem for that, simply use your mobile phone as a modem and you can surf as usual. Good luck!

Most newer laptops no longer come with a dial-up jack to put a phone cord. The way to find out if your computer will connect that way look for a port that looks exactly like a phone line. If this is not the case then you'll have to buy an adaptor to plug one in. However, this will only work if you, or the place you're going has dial-up service. Meaning you, or your daughtor has a dial-up isp provider. Most are bradband now a days and dial-up is rarely found.
