Really Annoying

I work at a pediatrician's office checking people it. It is really annoying and rude when people walk in and they are too busy talking on their cell phones to do what they need to do to check in. We've had parents come in on their cell phones, stay on the phone throughout the entire visit and even leave, still on the phone. I don't understand why people do this. Are you one of those people? Do you work in a position where you have to deal with the public and their cell phones? Recently I went to Tropical Smoothy, a small cafe place in the area, and they have a huge sign posted at the register that states "We will be glad you help you when you hang up the cell phone". I love this sign. When my husband and I purchased a new vehicle a few months ago, the finance manager had a similar sign posted on his wall. I wish we could post one where I am! Do you work at a place that has a sign referring to people and their cell phones?

Hi I think it is totaaly rude while you are on the phone and talking to the other person .I saw a advert in a local bakery where it was written that whilst talking on your mobile no orders will be entertained.Which i think is appropriate, It is indeed rude and holding on other people while you are deciding what you want to buy I think that it should be made manadatory everywhere.

I am not in the working feild anymore, but I could see where this could be very annoying. when you talk to them are they even listening to you. maybe not. well you should ask management if it would be ok if there would be any chance if someone or you could put a sign up saying that, its not like the sign is rude, if anything it is the person on the phone who is rude. tell them how you try to communicate with them and it can be difficult sometimes with them being on the phone. its worth a try.

cjfoust, I just cannot help to ask if you can remember that slogan with the reputable mobile phone Nokia? You know? When I first laid my hands on this marvel creation many years back I can still remember that slogan where it says: "Connecting people". So, connecting people indeed that today we find ourselves ever so connected and literally glued to our handsets. I can understand your annoyance here, but what can we do with the society getting more tense than before. Where everything is pressing, urgent, ASAP and hectic lifestyle problems, where one cannot be separated from the phone. Love them, hate them but I think this is just another example where it is telling us that some people are just over reliant on technology and so caught up with their strives, that they forget about themselves. If I may add about the wall notice, we may want to encourage online appointment scheduling and /or press for a number to be attended. Have a nice day and compliments of the season.

HI sky success: I think you are totally right when you mention that we are now too connected that we are sick of so much technologies. I think thi is part of our societies, every century has his own problems and issues that are part of their own way of life. The question is, can we be not so addicted that we'll be able to survive to the monsters we have created. Thanks for your answer. Have a nice day. -Alvaro.

Nothing worse than people on cell phones in such a situation, it is just plain rude. Cell phones are useful but in recent years they seem to be ruling peoples lives and they ave become slaves to them. I rarely use my cell phone and it is just there when I really need it. I would love such signs that you mention put up everywhere to be honest. Oh yeah, did I mention that, "All cell phones are evil"

I think it is is rude to be talking on the phone while dealing with other people. What my daughter and I do, is if we get somewhere and need to do something that involves other people, we just hang up our cell phones, and do what we need to do. We have always do that, and I think that everyone should hang up instead of keeping talking. Som opele are so rude and don't think of what it ooks like to be on the phone while they are conducting business. I am glad that there are business though that won't serve those that are on a cell phone. I certainly do agree with that. I applaud any business that does that. Take care, and happy mylottting.

It can be anoying when people don't have phone edicit. Espically those in the finical world where their world revolves around their phone. Especially parents who bring their kid in. The bring the kid to the doctor so they can't be accused of being neglectful, but they can't sit still long enough to find out what might be wrong with their child. While this reality is a sad one, it is a reality all the same. I'm sorry some people chose to be that way. When I was working, cell phones weren't allowed past the counter. (I worked at a pizza hut) But some people (like drivers for example) were allowed to have them at the ready. For obvious reasons. While I find it anoying sometimes I've been one of those people. I was in the mall, someone was trying to get my attention, and I was on my phone. Woman didn't even realize i was talking on the phone o.o

Hi cjfoust: I don't but I know how annoying is this and it's very reasonable that you want to put a sing on your work area. I have seen a similar sign in my local church, it says something like: "God will hear you if you hang up your phone and let him to talk to you", i find really nice because some people talks on their phones even in the church! It's so annoying how disrespectful people can be as you said. Thanks for telling us your personal experience on this issue. Have a nice day. -Alvaro.
