I agree with the responders; 1, 2, 3, and 4; they all have given the right advises for you to take and be calculative in your spending. Investigate by calculative manner before buying.
Contact your local dealer point of location because it involves after-sales-warranty.

I am Canadian, and when I tried to buy GPS software for my laptop, I was told that no electronics can be shipped outside of the USA. This is because they have special prices in the US which do not apply to the same equipment outside of the country. Sorry But I think you will have to purchase your laptop in the UK.

Yes i think you have to pay taxes for incoming products coming from united states considering that you come from uk!!So naturally taxes and shipping are costs you must pay when you buy products or services abroad...the percentage i ma not very sure but i think is around 30% of the total cost but you must verify it before buying it always suggested in this way you won't encounter bad surprise after your shopping!

Well the import tax rate for uk is 18 % however i have an option of shipping the laptop to australia and my friend carrying it to me to uk. I have heard that there has been a free trade agreement between united states and australia. is it true. could anyone please confirm it for me? I have heard that due to the agreement the import tax to items form united states shipped to austalia are very low or 0%. So anyone from australia could confirm it form me.

Yes, there are incoming tax as you are importing the laptop. The percentage? It depends on your law. In Indonesia it usually charges around 25% from the actual price. If you buy from Ebay, usually the seller will marked it as gift to avoid the tax. Don't really know about this also.
By the way, are you really serious want to buy a laptop online? Have you check on your local dealer? Because as far as I know, buying just one laptop from Ebay really cost more than buying locally (the price actually cheaper, but sum it up with shipping and tax fee, it becomes more expensive!).
