If You press the print screen key on Your keyboard, (somewhere over by the numerical pad) then whatever is on Your monitor will be copied to rhe clipboard.
It can then be pasted wherever You want.
For a more selective capture, press Alt and printscreen, than will copy Your active window, i.e. just a browser window that You may have open.

I bookmarked that link for future reference. Thanks so much. I like discussions like this where we can learn new stuff. I have had requests for screen shots.

It was so tough until I knew how to.
On the right side you will find PRINT SCREEN (prt sc) which is the same key as INSERT. Press CONTROL and PRINT SCREEN together and PASTE it anywhere. I paste it on PAINT and save it as jpeg file.
Did I confuse you?

You can do it with the print screen but unless you have a photo editor you are very limited to what you get that way..
There is a terrific little FREE program though that i use all the time called mwsnap...you can get a screen shot of anything on you screen with it from the whole screen to a specific selected area...
heres a link to download it...its very easy to use too

Hi Gaby. I see you have the answer.
I'm not techno but I needed to do this once, and my boys told me how.
Too easy!

I'm sure by now you see how easy it is Gabs (I'm still running very late). When I was using my desktop, I simply could not do it. But I've managed to do it easily on my laptop, following instructions of course. I can't remember how to put the screenshot where I want it but I will be taking notes from your discussion here...

Sorry Gabs. As much as I would love to be able to help you, I also don't know how to do that. Where is one of my kids when I need computer advice?

hi gabs I wish I knew how myself so I could help you. but I know one person who knows all about all and everything on a computer and thats my son Robbie. email him at lonewolf@well.com and tell him his mom sent you to him for help. As he is still out of work, he loves to keep up with all things to do with computing. He has years of experience but so far he hasnt been able to get into another computer programmer job. take care. good luck hope he can help and others here can help you too. do email him and see if he cannot tell you how to do it. hugs to you and mylittle man Gissi.

Well gabs your question has been answered I see. I have Vista on my laptop and I use a program called ‘Snipping Tool’ which pretty much does the same thing. Mine was already in my programs. I didn’t know how to take a screenshot until not very long ago, whenever I was asked to do one for whatever reason I would generally find a way of getting around it because I had no clue and yet the answer was so simple; it always is once you now how!

wait, you want to make a screen shot of your desktop using a laptop? it's just easy. what you need to do is press fn + insert (or the key with a prt sc) writing. After you've done it, open paint then paste it there. I assume you know the ctrl + v method because that would be easier. I haven't tried to paste it in any other program like photoshop gimp and the likes but maybe they will work.

Hi Gabs
Ya it was pretty simple as Nautilus has suggested. However, you can try this as well (ALT + Prt Screen)and can see the difference between this and only pressing print screen key.
