If a child doesnt live with the custodial parent but lives with the grandparent who should the child support go to? What if the grandparent doesn't need the support? Does the child support have to go to the person who has the child in their home or can it go to the custodial parent?

here is the thing about child support, it is for the support of the child.
If the child is living with a grandparent then (and this rarely happens) both of the parents should pay the grandparent child support. If grandma does not need the money then she chooses what to do with it, hopefully it will go into a savings acount for the child or children.
The same goes if the child is being raised by a parent, if hte money is not needed that does not mean it is not sent it means it should be saved for the child.
The custodial parent should be adult enough to realise that the money being spent for child support is not their due, but instead is for the child. And if the custodial parent is not taking care of the child (hence not living with the child) then in my opinion that parent needs to be sending child support even if it is not court ordered.

Hi, dvmurphy! I think it depends on where you live. Usually the child lives with the custodial parent, so i am not very sure. I would check with the state in which the ruling was made for child support, and also where the custodial parent lives.

It is supposed to be for the child, so it should go where the child is. If you don't need it, put it back for the child.

The child support is for the benefit of the child. If the child is living with the grandparents then the child support should go to the grandparents. If the grandparents don't neeed or want the money then they should put it in a savings account for the child.

The child support goes to whoever is mentioned in the court order. But if the circumstances have changed, somebody ought to go back to the court and have the support order changed to meet the new circumstances.

If the grandparent has legal custody the child support money should go to the grandparent. That would be dumb if the child support went to the mother or father when the child isn't even living with them.

dvmurphy the child support must go to the person actually caring for the child as its for the child not the parent, how come a custodial parent is not taking care of the child in the first place, after all that was who was given custody, you cannot use this for your self, no matter how wellto do the grandparent is if she is careing for the child she should get the funds alloted for the childs care. The custodial parent is not caring for the child why should she get support that belongs to the child? this is selfish.
