Gender Signs In Mylot (Nearly Danger :p)

I was just thinking... How do you like a gender sign/symbol be placed right before your user name in myLot? I'm only a member here for 3 months and OH! It's actually my 3rd month today! Hurray! Lol. Not let's continue... As I was saying I'm only a member here for 3 months only but I've been already into a lot circumstance wherein I have to look and check the profile of the member I'm responding to or commenting to just to check his or her gender. Don't you think it's too tasking doing that over and over again just for the sake of knowing the member's gender? I do. So I've come up into this idea. What do you think about this and what do you prefer? A symbol? Sign? A simple F or M at the sides of our names? Or a more formal Mr. and Ms. prefix to our user names? Which do you like? I just hope admin can lay some eyes on this discussion.

not really - i don't think you usually need to know somebody's gender and if somebody wants to make it obvious they can choose a username that makes it clear.

Well many also prefer a user name that is not so in favor to their nature. A lady can use HULK as her user name. Hehe. HULK. Haha. I'm now amuse by my own joke. A lady with a HULK user name can be addressed as he when in fact it should be a she. Now if this feature I'm having in mind is actually here at myLot, HULK would now become Ms.HULK. Now that sounds more disturbing. shadow41

Does my user name make it clear?...or are you just guessing from it? LOL I generally don't state my gender, buy I guess with TheCatLady it would be a bit redundent.

Honestly TheCatLady, I wouldn't bother to look at your profile if you didn't gave me any reason to do it. I would have just perceive you as a lady upon seeing your user name but since you're asking me I really have to check your profile just to make sure. To my surprise I can't see your real gender there. Oh well.. Not too sure now. shadow41

You have a very good idea. I hope ADMIN and staff will take a look at this one. It will also enhance members' reputation here by showing to other members the real you and not hide on the backdrop of anonymity

Oh thank you. You're right. But I think members have also the right to preserve their identity and only show it to public when they want to. So this feature I'm talking about should only be an option for us. We can choose to display our gender or not. My idea is more way like that. Anyway thanks for approving. Good to see you again in my discussion. Now I'm going to visit your site. Hahaha. shadow41 update: website visited

If you want a 'gender' sign, why not also have age, country of origin, skin colour, eye colour, hair colour ... it would give us so many clues as to how to pre-judge the discussion, don't you think? If you really need to know whether someone is male or female, you can very easily look at their profile. If they choose not to display it there, then you can safely assume that (for them) it doesn't matter. If you feel uncomfortable not knowing, that is YOUR problem ... and you can always choose not to respond to discussions if it matters to you. People are people. In most discussions it should not matter what gender they are. We have all been gifted with thinking apparatus, whether we are male or female.

Well, I am Mr Owlwings, ancient, UK, pink, [n/k], bald &c &c ... is it really important? If people think that I am female (which they rarely do), it's a cause for mild amusement and must be because of the way I responded (perhaps apparently from a feminine point of view, which is quite possible). I am not offended if people call me 'she', though I would quickly take care to put them right.

Even when it IS stated in the profile and all the other signs are available too some people still insist in calling a mys a 'he' I have been told I should add a bow to those two locks

Hey there owlwings. Well that's really my concern. The profile to another profile hopping. It's a bit tasking. And I just want to make use of gender sign for exact pronoun usage. Don't really want to make a mistake but I often do commit one. Hmmmm... And oh.. having all of those attributes won't fit at the sides of our names. Mr.shadow41 23 Phil fair brown light brown Ehehe....

It is a very good suggestion shadow 41. Just a simple F or M will be sufficient. At the same time, I have my own doubts about some people who log in. If you see in their profile, it is mentioned as a female, but the way they reply to discussions, I have my own doubts about their gender. Today morning also a female member had mistaken my discussion, and thought it has been posted by a female. This mistake happens because, some people do not check the profile before posting. Let us hope the admin. will take some action.

Thanks a lot rameshkumaar57. That's a very good example you gave there. That is why I thought this idea of mine will be of such a help. It will save the heck of visiting members profiles and also will avoid wrong assumptions like what happened to you. Hehehe. shadow41

Why does it matter which gender we are? We're here to mull over issues and get different points of view. When I respond to a discussion, I don't care if the topic was started by a man or a woman; what matters is lively (charitable) debate and discussion.

I can see your point in wanting to address people correctly but then there will always be those that state that they are one thing when they are really another - and some might be both

Oh yes your right Diana. Hehe. But even without that feature here for now they're already living here at myLot having their most preferred and wished gender. Having that feature will just make them happier. Hahaha. shadow41

It matters because from time to time we're going to use pronouns right? And I usually end up naming ladies a he instead of a she and also gentlemen a she instead of a he. So it does matter. Although not all the time. But I guess it's still a nice feature. shadow41

hi shadow wow what a great idea I would go for the simpleF or M before our names, it would help me as hatley is my last name and so many people think I am a guy so If there was a nice F in front I would be very happy so people would all know I am a female not a guy. I would like it to be F. Hatley then all would know not to think of me as a he but as a she.

Hi Hatley. Nice to have you here. Thanks for agreeing on this one. I think this would be a really good feature in myLot. I'm yet to suggest this to Ms. Alice. I'm very busy this holidays so I haven't participated yet in her discussions. Thanks again Hatley and may you have a very happy and prosperous new year. shadow41

Hi, shadow41. I think that a symbol would work just fine. It would not be in the way of all of the other symbols that we have. It is a great idea to have our gender shown right beside our name. That way, it will be easier to find out who is what here at myLot. Maybe myLot will take your consideration into thought.

Hello cream97. I'm happy to see you approved my idea. I really think this would be beneficial to all. It will save us time and troubles in opening another window in our browsers just to see the gender of our dialogue partners. Thanks cream97. shadow41

I personally think that it is important to know the gender of the person whose discussion you are commenting on. This is because, it is very good to refer to someone as a mr Mrs Ms or anything to that extent. It is of great need to put something on gender besides ones username...

Yeah. It really is important to know the gender. I don't understand some people here doesn't want a feature like that. It's for the betterment of myLot. I don't see any negative impact it can bring to myLot. After all I was just suggesting a feature which we can be turned on or off. Guess they want things the hard way. shadow41

I do not think we need to have a sign by our username. If you think you need to know then you can check and maybe fine out if they have listed whether are a female or male in their profile. That is the wy it should be.

Yes that is the way it is right now and tell me, isn't it a bit tasking? Will the feature I have in mind won't be of a help? I think it can at least improve myLot but not to the extent of course. Just a little. shadow41

Hi there voldrox. Good to see you again in my discussion. Ahaha. Stalking seems to be a nice idea if they're worth it. Since I became a member here responding to discussions, I always do 2 things. One is visiting members profiles to see some info of them especially gender and second is guessing(if I'm to lazy to visit any profile ) And know what? I always get it wrong. I address a he a she and she a he. Hahaha. SHEHE. I can't even pass to be a false profit. Lol. shadow41

Well, I am not sure I care about gender when I reply to discussions. I for one don't actually have the time to check that way. I take the posts for their content gender should not matter.

true, specially though this media, virtual meeting for discussions. Interchange of thoughts and contribution towards a topic, granted that some situations and reflections may apply to specific gender for instance if we discus a topic like personal care.

But there are those instances where in we will use some pronouns and then we can't be so sure of members gender here by just looking at user names. Well not unless all have photos like you do climber. And also I. Although it's not me in my avatar. shadow41
