An Indonesian maid shared her ideas of how to preserve fruits and vegetables. She learned it from a family when she worked for them in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. That family was using "aluminum coated plastic bags" to keep their fruits and vegetables fresh for weeks!!! It was amazing. The type of aluminum coated plastic bag could be from any food product. You got to do it to believe it. Try it out.

I believe this works as even if I wrapped the veg and fruits with cling wrap, and double wrap again with newspaper, it will still be able to be kept for weeks. The reason behind is that the oxidation of the fruits and veg is reduced, and it is not expose to the air. and also, thanks for sharing the information..

Yes and there are several other ways of preserving food and fruits as well but they thing is I had a feeling that they lost their taste when they are kept for long so eat them while they are fresh and easy available on low prises.

I will have to try that, I have certain things that go bad fairly quickly such as strawberries. The Debbie Meyer green bags work really good on bananas and fairly good on lettuce. They didn't work that great on the strawberries for me though, but someone else said they did work well for their berries so maybe I did something wrong with them.

I watched a Japanese program where they said that high humidity will preserve the fruits and vegetables but too much moist will invite the unwanted fungi population but they solve the problem by ionizing the oxygen in the storage. That sounds high tech, right?

That's a new one, I hadn't heard of it before. I'll have to try it out real soon. Recently they came out with the green colored bags and said they help keep things fresh longer. I haven't trie that yet either! Thanks!!

Wow, like for weeks? that's great. So far I only put my fruits in their plastic bag in refrigerator and they stay fresh for at most 2 weeks. Uhm, but if the vegetables or fruits aren't dry/still wet then wouldn't there be fungi or bacteria growing? Like carrots or turnips they tend to rot easily right?
