One More Bigot

My psychologist moved into a new office and she's happy that she moved there because it's wheelchair accessible and has two wheelchair accessible bathrooms. Then poor Shelly, my psychologist met her neighbors. One of the neighbors is a yoga instructor. Because my therapist treats a lot of transgender people, she wanted to put a sign on the bathroom that says gender neutral, so it would be comfortable for her clients. She spent $30.00 on the sign. The yoga instructor took the sign down and hid it. She reinstated the gender specific bathrooms, even though Shelly has permission from the landlord to ungender them. Now, the yoga woman has informed the landlord that she wants a wall erected so that Shelly's clientèle cannot use her bathroom, even though it's shared by all three tenants. Paranoia much? I hope this woman gets laughed out of her landlord's office. What are people thinking?

hi cripfemme oh my gosh that was not up to the yoga
instructor to butt in like that. I thought yoga was based
on getting along with all people as well as the physcial
exercises. she sounds really paranoid. I know a lot of
places that have ungendered bathrooms now, my doctor's clinic
has ungendered bathrooms as when a man or woman has to go,
they really have to go. It has never bothered me or anyone
I noticed either. so this gal must be really persnickety for
sure. You go in and lock the door, and do your business, whats'
to get upset about? only one person at a time.Does she really'think some transgender person is going to break the'
lock and molest her? she is beyond belief.

Would it really be awful for some people if bathrooms were not gender-specific? I have a feeling that what bothers people is not sharing a restroom with transgender people, it is sharing the planet with them. I do not mean that in the sense of them bearing animosity but more along the lines of being very uncomfortable with the whole idea. I understand that, I sympathize with it, and I have no idea what should be done. This is a situation where somebody will not get what they want, no matter what solution is found. Life is like that sometimes.

Well, not to take the yoga instructors side but maybe she is just thinking about HER clients. Maybe she is worried they will feel uncomfortable. I have nothing against transgender people, but I might feel a little uncomfortable using the same bathroom at first. She might be worried she would lose customers if they felt uncomfortable. Or maybe she is a bigot being that she went so far as to steal the sign. That's pretty childish. I hope that everything works out for your psychologist though.

First of all let me inform you, that I am not against transgenders. At the same time, I would be a little uncomfortable if they start using the bathrooms. Just think, if a male transgender walks into a female bathroom. Some woman, may not mind it, but the majority of the woman will be uncomfortable with a male transgender sharing their bathroom. It is not paranoia, but the comfort level which has to be seen. Finally, as a co tenant, the yoga instructor has got every right to her privacy. It is up to the landlord to take a final decission on this

Is it a single room bathroom or one with stalls? I know there are still a lot of people out there that are uncomfortable being in the next stall with a transgender. Not taking sides but just saying. If it is a single person bathroom then who the heck cares...I don't understand anyone caring about that one. I haven't really heard a lot from either side of this issue so I think I'd have to hear just why people are against it.

There could be those coming for yoga classes who may not like your idea. I would not like to go to a 'common' toilet and there could be many like me. The yoga instructor's thinking seems to have some logic!!

While this is a very interesting topic and I am rarely at a loss for words, I do not think that there is anything that I can add to discussion. I will say that I hope that everyone will do what they know in their hearts to be right and that everything works out fine.
