Have you ever ridden a horse, not a pony, a full grown horse? Was it a hard thing to learn to do or an easy one for you? Do you still ride?

Hi again, artistry. As I tell people when asked this question face-to-face, I practically grew up on a horse. I started riding at six and received a pony for my ninth birthday. I was told I was a natural. At seven I began to compete in western competitions in races such as barrel races, pole bending, flag racing, and sometimes even Texas Keyhole and other western games. It was very easy for me to learn to ride and it even came naturally...I spent extra time on loving and knowing the current pony/horse I rode so we could make a better team. I saw so many people sometimes hitting their horses after messing up on a barrel pattern...and it pained me to see. So did people who changed their horses like bedsheets. The pony I rode for many years was named Apple Pie...and later as I grew I rode a beautiful palomino gelding horse I named Crisco. I had an obsession with food products. The first time I rode a horse was when my dad let me ride his horse Chavez through a barrel pattern. We were trying to decide on whether or not I should move up to an actual horse. I was so scared because he was so much bigger! But on the way "home" (back through the timer from doing a race pattern) I was urging him on and laughing...being on the back of a horse is a beautiful thing. I don't still ride consistently...I had a few years of depression I went through in my teenage years and stopped riding. A few years after that I rode just for a trail ride with my dad...and sometimes we still go out to trail ride. It used to be the main thing we did together. What about you? Have you ever ridden a horse?

.....Hi LovingLife, Another great story. No, I have not ever ridden a horse.I was born on a farm with horses, cows, chickens, pigs, and goats. The whole Old McDonald thing. But never rode a horse before we moved North when I was little, after that I don't think I ever thought about riding a horse, although for some reason I wanted to own horses, never did that yet either. I love horses, I draw them sometimes. I used to attend the horse shows at Devon every year, they are beautiful creatures. You are a real Annie Oakley. I love it. Horses are used in therapy with children as I am sure you know. Ahorse is majestic in my opinion. Thanks so much for sharing, I always enjoy reading what you write. Take care.

Horses are much different than other animals people may be blessed with knowing in their lifetimes. Depending on whether you ride them or not, you can also have a partnership with your horse AND that love and admiration you get from them. People really love horses...even though some are afraid of them, horses give those majestic, WOW! feelings to people that you mentioned. I remember trail riding from a place we used to keep our horses with my dad to a drive thru ice cream parlor down the street. It required riding next to a street and then crossing another street at the stop sign. My dad and I stopped so many cars just by riding down the street...people would roll down the windows and ask if they could pet them. Horses amaze people simply by being horses. You should upload some of your drawings! I draw as well...always doodled horses since I could hold a pencil, and they've become quite realistic over the years...but cats and movie/videogame characters are now my main subject area. It's so hard to get a horse just right...as you probably know they have a very complex muscular system that makes the exterior angles hard to get right. I'd love to see some of your drawings, though, if you could upload them. I bet they're beautiful!

...Hi LovingLife, thank you for your compliments and for wanting to see my pictures. I have had a few art shows in the past, mostly now whenever I am feeling up to it, I have a bad back, I do abstract drawings and oil paintings. I can remember doing the head of a horse for my sister along with some other black snd white sketches for her home. I have a picture drawn from a photograph of a little girl with long hair and a great smile that I did a long time ago, that I keep as I am proud of the work. I am sorry to say that I am not computer savvy enough to download pictures, have done articles. Oh yes, if you like to read poetry or short stories, do visit www.authspot.com/writers/quiet+voice.8137 Look for a story called "Red Rodeo in Texas". If you visit and like any of the writings, please leave a comment. Thanks very much for your thoughts. Horses again are one of my very favorite animals.

I rode horses several times in my youth but I was never taught and so I don't think I ever rode properly...the horse was the one in control, not me.I used to need a leg-up to mount and if the horse cantered or went into a gallop, my bones would be jolted around in my body...it was scary sometimes but I still loved the experiences each time.

..Hi there Ms Tickle, I love horses, I think they are beautiful animals. I am sure at this time in my life, especially with a bad back the only horse I would get on, if I did, would be on a merry-go-round. I used to go every year to see the horse show in Devon, Pennsylvania, great show. Do like to watch the races, but get scared that they will run into each other or something. I do wish, I guess that I had like you did, experienced riding one, at least once. I was born on my grandparents farm with lots of animals, but left and that was it for the horses being close by. I do love to watch being ridden and admire anyone who can ride. Good that you got up there and rode as you did. Thanks for your interestimg comment, take care.

Hello. No, I have never ridden a horse. That's a good question. I never had the opportunity to get on to a horse-back. I have been to horse races, and enjoyed watching the races. That's the closest I have ever got to horse riding. Thinking about it, I can sense it can be very exciting, and at the same time can be quite dangerous too, right ?

.....Hi there greenline, You are absolutely right, a horse is a powerful, very strong animal. I admire anyone who has the confidence to get on a horse, young or old, let alone ride the horse. I have a male friend who went riding on the beach on a horse once, and for some reason, maybe the sand was tricky, the horse fell down. Just before the horse was down, my friend rolled from under him. He could have been crippled from the horse crushing part of his body, he was quick and lucky. So yes, exciting and I think dangerous. Look at poor Christopher Reed, he never was able to fully recover from that one fall. Thanks for your response. Take it easy. Oh yes, I too like watching the races, but I am always afraid of them bumpimg each other and falling. It's a bit scary. See you.

I have, but just once, for about four hours. I survived and I'll leave it at that. The horse was a little crazy and I swear he was trying to kill me. There are other things that I enjoy more, like walking and riding a bicycle. Though one day I'll probably try horse-riding again. But it will be a while. Not in a real hurry. Though when I was young we lived on a farm and had our own donkey and rode him a lot. Happy trails!

....Hi there again 1hopefulman, you are a nice man as well :o). Well I just manaaged to stop laughing at your horse riding episode, there I started to laugh again. It is really not a funny thing if one thinks about it, horse riding accidents are very bad and can be fatal. So no joke here, but you did make me laugh, the way you wrote it. I was born on a farm, but moved up North very young, never rode a horse down South. Love horse shows. Wanted to own horses, hasn't happened yet, someone said it is very expensive to keep them, so I calmed down about owning horses. Take it easy.

...Hi fruitcakeliz, Neat name. Thanks for sharing with us. Getting on a horse as an adult is hard enough, but as a child, you were a brave little soul. I was born on a farm where my grandmother had all kinds of animsls incuding horses, but I never rode one while we lived there. I love horses, I think they are most majestic. Take care and thanks again.
