Its that time of year again when we are spending money that we really don't have on toys for the kids and gifts for other family members. The hassel of finding the right gift for the right person. The stress of it all. This is when I truly wish I lived in the time period when people made things to give as gifts. That era had to be the best time when it came to Christmas gifts. As for me this year I have cut down considerably. Buying everything without using a credit card. Money is tight and I can't afford to overspend. So how about you are you spending the same as last year, less then last year or more then last year?

This year i was well behind as i was not really in the mood for Christmas, where as in all the previous years i had done as well as wrap[ped the presents up as well as gave them all to everyone that i do each year.Where as this year i had not bothered to save any vouchers and only had a few that had been sent through on earning sites.I also tend to buy gift throughout the year as well as i find then i have lots of things for lots of people and do not have to rush around as well like i have this year.

Yes I was not really into Christmas as I have in the past. I hope that the spirit of Christmas will arrive in my heart this week. I want to wish you and your family a Merry Christmas and Happy Healthy New Year.

Christmas is tough this yr for me. I don't have alot of money like I did last yr so I can't spend as much. Its hard to when I don't have a credit card as well...But its the thought that counts and not how much u spend on someone.

Be glad you don't have a credit card because then with no money you will have to worry about paying the bill off later. That is why I haven't used a credit card either. The thought is what counts. I wish you a Merry Christmas and Happy Healthy New Year.

We are not buying on credit either. We have really cut back on what we are spending, but the gift cards that I earned online are really helping.

I cannot get out that much to do Christmas shopping because my husband has als and I am taking care of him. We plan to give a gift to our two grandchildren, but will give either a gift card or money to our sons, daughters--in=laws and our friends. I usually pay for everything with credit cards, but then I pay it off when the statement becomes due. I hope to spend less this year, but then my husbands wants to give $100 each to our two sons and daughters=in=laws and $50 gift cards to our two friends. I do not know how much the gifts to the tw0 grandchildren will cost. He will probably want to spend a lot, but I figure a book and a teddy bear would do.

I went and got $400 out of the bank for our sons and the wives, and then we went Christmas shopping for the grandkids. Talk about grandparents spoiling the grandchildren. it cost me almost $120 and I put it on my credit card rather then the one in both our names. I do have enough money to pay for it, but I was not planning to get that much. Oh and on top of that I had to buy extra groceries as well. Good thing I put enough money aside to pay for it all.

I'm only paying with cash this year so I don't have a credit card bill hopefully. I think I only have one more gift to give. Paying it off when the bill comes in is the best thing to do. So you don't get charged finance charges. I wish you and your family a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Hi friend,
Okay get out of my head. You think exactly the way I do.
All through the year we live paycheque to paycheque. Then come December, we have to come up with money we would never normally have. It always amazes me. I am finding it really hard the past few years. My sons are 23 and 19 and I have a 15 year old daughter.
My daughter is actually easy to buy for. But the boys...I just stand in the store scratching my head. They are the worst to buy for.
But I am so with you. I would love to go back to Christmas long ago when the gifts were made and certainly appreciated. The commercialism is just overwhelming.
Merry Christmas anyway lelin.

I don't have boys so I couldn't help you there. I have two grown daughters. Good luck in finding something for the boys. Merry Christmas to you Cheryl and your family too. Lelin

good morning lelin, I guess i'm spending about the same if not less this year.I shopped for the grankids but i just give my sons & dil's money. Can't please them anyway & don't feel like doing much shopping. Furnishing a meal as much as that costa should be enough gift but don't think the kids would feel that way about it. lol. MERRY CHRISTMAS.

My spending is highly restricted, our income, because it is SSI and Gov. pension will not change for the next two years, mean time more and more expenses are going up.

I'm buying about the same. I try to do quite a bit for my girls because throughout the year I don't buy a lot of extras. I try to go all out on birthdays and Christmas. I buy more of things that they need though and not so many toys and stuff. They are pretty much out of that stage anyway. They love the clothes and such now.

I guess I'm still spending around the same amount as before, perhaps a bit more because of more friends that I should buy presents for. I totally agree with you, if we could make our own Christmas presents it would be so much easier, and also a lot more thoughtful when considering the actual present. Gift cards are easy to give out, but they kind of show that you didn't put a lot of thought into the gift. That's just what I think anyways.

You are totally right about the gift cards. Sometimes though you don't really have a clue as to what to get someone. So they are able to buy what they want or need.

Well, I think this year I did not buy as much as last year as most of the things are really rated under high prices and higher prices nothing I bought was cheap or acceptable, I bought less with same money I used for last year :) But after all it is worth it, and it is one time a year :)

I know everything has gone up in price. I don't know how anyone thinks people can spend more if they don't have jobs. I know I spent alot less then any other year in my life. The best is not putting anything on a credit card. Merry Christmas and a Happy Healthy New Year to you.

I spent much less than last year, for the past few years though I've only bought for my mom, godmothers, brother and a couple close friends. It's too expensive to buy for everyone and the people I buy for would rather get a few small gifts that are inexpensive than a huge gift so it makes things easier for myself. Oh and I always have to buy something for my two cats, they know what Christmas' is and expect something but their easy to please haha.
I use to buy for everyone but than if someone bought for me and I didn't get them something in return, partly because I didn't know they we're buying for me it would turn into world war 3 and I couldn't stand it anymore. It's suppose to be giving is better than receiving and it's the thought that counts, however most people are gimmie, gimmie that I know and some people in general and it's all about the biggest gifts someone gets.
It's honestly horrible what Christmas' has turned into, kids all brag about what they get and than another kid didn't get that same gift or something more expensive and they get made fun of or something. That use to happen when I was in school and I'll admit I had nice expensive Christmas' and always had a lot of gifts but I never bragged. Even when I was younger and still now I always give to Toys for Tots because all kids should at least have one nice gift on Christmas.

I so agree with you as to what Christmas has become. I blame it partly on the parents who have given their kids everything and more. It leave the kids wanting more and better. Its ridiulous. I wish you and your family a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Hi! Well, if you want to make your beloved ones happy, you must give them something, but not always that are presents you can buy. Sometimes you can only say or do something, which will be more precious for them than any gift, or you could even contrive something using your own hands and ingenuity!

This is true, sometimes the best gifts are the ones handmade. Thanks for your response.

Well I think that Christmas shopping is really fun. I think that you should go Christmas shopping with joy. Joy is so awesome. Because joy helps you get through shopping. I think that with shopping, no one could go wrong. Everyone goes shopping every now and then. You could even make your gifts that you give people. It is stressful. But you know, that stress is fun. Stress is fun because it teaches you about life. Life is so awesome because it teaches. I think that Christmas is amazing. Have a great time! I still have to go Christmas shopping, I really haven't done this yet. Maybe we do have the money you know. Why would we be spending it, if we didn't have it? Huh? Also, why the right gift? People change all the time. Although I think I understand you on this.

Christmas shopping is fun when you know what to buy for a certain person. When you don't have a clue what to get someone that causes a bit of stress.

I haven't done any christmas shopping at all this year. My kids grew up and moved out so granmas buying them wii and I get nothing but its ok. I sacrificed all these years for the kids. My husband will get me nothing wrapped. It'll be just another day. I am however looking forward to the clearance of christmas on the internet see if I can snag a deal somewhere. I always like the gift soap lotion packs at the walmart. I have never gotten anything I ever wanted for christmas but I always made sure my kids got the toys they wanted. I try to think of what I would want that I cant take and buy at the store . What do I want ? I want a hot tub now that the kids moved out but I doubt Santat will get me that either. Maybe my standards are too high now, maybe if I asked for a Mrs. Beasley doll now that I'm 40 I might get that.HAHA lol. oh well as long as my sons r happy.

That was my belief always as long as the kids are happy and I have a good meal on the table I'm happy then. I hope you get the hot tub you want. May you and your family have a Merry Christmas and Happy Healthy New Year.
