To earn, you need to be active and participate in discussions, and they need to be quality, descriptive and have substance. They need to be more than just few lines, as that isn't quality, and that is what mylot bases our ernings on. You can post a lot of meaningless posts which aren't qualit, are not descriptive and hae no substance, and you wouldn't get paid for those at all. Also, you need to post comments to the responses you receive, as you are only paid for what you do, and not what others do. You need to post quality comments too, and not just a thank you for your response, as they won't earn anything. You could also try doing tasks if you want to increase your earnings.
