Politicians Need To Live Our Life for a MONTH

United States

I really feel if politicians, senators, presidents, vice presidents, governors, etc. put their life in our shoes for atleast a month, our income, our jobs, our bills, I would think it would help them see how it is for us and might actually take our insight into consideration. Even if they came from the middle class go to the lower class and see how they deal with everyday issues and healthcare, gas prices, jobs, education, etc. Many have been raised in the money, know what the money can do for them and don't think about the people they are to be helping. Money is for more money is all they care about. It would be nice, but I know it will never happen. Person can dream right? lol

I've always though that anyone running for public office should be required to live on $800 a month for 6 months with no help from anyone. THEN they would truly be qualified for office! Maybe. I don't know. I think people who want to be public figures are mentally ill anyway, to a certain degree. We have so many power mad people in DC it's ridiculous. Part of any representative's job should be to work one week of every month in a minimum wage job and donate what they make to a people-based charity. Make them get their hands dirty and talk to real people. Fat chance, huh? We should also rescind all their lifetime pensions and health benefits. Our founders meant for our reps to serve one term as a public service then go back to their lives. How we have twisted and perverted their noble ambitions!

I feel they should be know whats it like to live like us, getting dirty, pay check to pay check, same everything, car, house, utilities, insurances, etc. then they may realize what they are dealing with and understand how much one can really afford. Some may have been here before office but as soon as they get in there and get the green they oh how quickly forget what its like. They talk to us (some) but it always seem like the ones who have money. don't seem quite fair :((

Unfortunately, I believe that if these guys lived our lives for a month, they'd survive the ordeal, brag about it and tell themselves, "these people can still afford Jollibee? I'm being way too nice." Who are you rooting for in the 2010 presidential election?

That could be true and probably would be done and just brag about that they "made it through" I didn't vote for anyone on the sheet the last election, this election probably write in again.

I completely agree with you on this but will politicians ever really step down from their throne to live the life of the common man. I really don't think so. Why do you think our laws and regualtions can be so stupid and pointless.

nice to dream though :) they do have stupid, pointless rules and laws and policies, especially like making lower income pay for more insurances that we can't even afford!! there is more also but won't go there.

Some of our political people have made it through the ranks, but all that many! I think any person that is born with the "silver spoon" should have to take on our lives! With all the money that is going to "bail out" all these companies and not helping any of their personnel, should have to give everything up for at least a month and find out what they have taken from all of their employees! Yes, the politicians, too. The handouts should be handed back! Let them find another way to deal with their yacht payments! Ok, I've said enough, I will get off my soap box! Happy Mylotting to all and to all a good night!!

I know what you mean about their yacht payments, mansions in paradise island, jets, etc.. It would be nice to know how to live like us and our taxes paying their bills!!!

Yes, that is true. The problem is, they are busy being selfish, thinking about their own problems that they forget that there is a whole lot of people that they need to be serving first before themselves.

exactly, more selfish to take money from us less fortunate to pay their bills while they strive and we still suffer farther into poverty.

If we allow them to lead our life for one week they will definitely spoin our peace and harmony. Very next day we will start quarreling with our neighbors or friends and we have to stake our peace and harmony if we do this type of experiment.

way things are going, its not too far from it now. Some of us don't even talk to our neighbors :) Others fight over property lines now. I just thought it would be a good idea for them to learn how to live pay check to pay check or below poverty and see what we struggle with each and everyday whereas they have it all.

I totally agree with you but will that ever happen I believe their attitude would change, they keep going on about having to save money and putting Peoples Taxes up to get the money in, why do they not cut their own wages and save money that way instead of picking on the lower Class who are trying to survive

You are right from your point of view. They would say the same thing. Sit in our positions and you would understand how difficult it is. Ha ha ha... Yes, politics has become a web of immoral activities and only the immoral and unjust can succeed. The rule of politics is be selfish, ignore the mass, and make money as much as you can for yourself. Even if one person thinks of reforming the society and bringing about a change, and giving a clean and honest governance, the rest would bounce him off. Ha ha! So, they know what our situation is, they know it very well and they aren't ignorant of it, it's just they don't bother. They don't need to live our lives, because they have already lived it that way, many of them, and have come up a long way to become politicians, and yes, they don't want to do anything to change our lives, the lives they lived once upon a time.

i agree with your suggustion for these politicians and government's officer.i find that they need to understand our normal people's life, what they want in the life, not only they take some action to do it now.but only they should pay attention to our life and undertand the need of our life and deal with actual problem for it.

hi charblaize yes i agree if these people lived below the poverty line or if they lived pay check to pay check than this country maybe would be ran a little bit better. hey maybe this should be made into law across the board that these people have to to trade places with the average joe once every year so that they are more in touch with reality and know and understand what it means to have little money or living paycheck to paycheck. yes a person can dream and we can also make our dreams a reality, we are the people who put people in office we can make changes.

...Hi therecharblaize, I think you make a good point. The health care situation is a perfect example. They all in Washington, have health care insurance that is paid for with taxpayer money, the best that can be bought. But they do not seem to care about what the other people are going through and some are dying for the lack of insurance. They allow themselves to be bought with money for their campaign and vote for those companies against the people, basically for themselves. So it would help if they had a little emphaty and even mentally walked in our shoes. Take care.

Yes, some of us can't even get done what we need because the insurance won't pay for it, yet they get plastic surgeries and full benefits, probably even their medications paid for where we have to pay full retail! Money is always more greedy for more money no matter who or what it hurts. such a sad cycle.
