Here is a good news for Indian cricket lovers. India's climb to the No 1 spot in the ICC test rankings came one win after its 100th Test victory, a journey that begun on February 10, 1952, at Chepauk when the last England wicket fell to a catch by C.D. Gopinath. nearly six decades later. Gopinath has become the sole surviving member of the playing 11 which won India its first test win.
The significance of his contribution went unnoticed even on the day when India beat Lankans to record 100 Test wins. Presumably, no one thought any member of the squad was still alive.

India is the official no. 1 Test team now. India has reached this distinction for the first time when they beat Sri Lanka in the third Test of the three Test series of the Japyee Cup in Mumbai. With this win India has pocketed the series 2-0 and is now sitting pretty at the top.
This win has been a collective effort of all who played this match. The batsmen gave India a solid start to start with. Murali Vijay, the replacement of Gautam Gambhir especially came good for India. His opening partner, Virendar Sehwag, was as usual in his attacking mood. Sachin Tendulkar, captain M S Dhoni too played their part in breaking the back of the Lankans. They all took care to see that what Sangakkara had said about leveling the series in Mumbai after the Kanpur loss, proved futile.
The bowlers supported the cause of the batsmen too. Harbhajan Singh, Pragyan Ojha, S. Shreesanth and Zaheer Khan all played their part in bundling out the Islanders in their first innings.
