It will be difficult, but i think it will be interesting, you can find a lot of ways to make other people understand what you say. Especially for order the meal. I heared of a lot of jokes about traveling in other country and can not communicate with local people.

hi liulanyan, i have never been abroad, but i think i would get homesick if i am in this situation. although i have never been abroad, china is a big country, if you live in the south of china, and you go to north of china, you would find that it is so far, like go to another country. the city where i live is far from my university, the first year i come to university was hard to me, i feel so homesick being so far away from my home and my parents.

I have only been to Nepal so far.. and I never had a language problem, and I could understand a few words from their dialect as it is similar to Hindi. And, almost everybody in Nepal speaks in English, and most of them speak Hindi as well. So, I never had a problem. I will have to see how I feel when I go to a non-English speaking nation, like somewhere in Europe and describe the experience... Ha ha.. I guess it will be tough, so I am already trying to learn German a bit... A very tough task!

Hi liulanyan, firstly if i'm visiting a country, where i can't speak their language, i'll make sure that i carry a transalation book or phrase book, that sort of thing, so that language doen't create a barrier in communicating with the locals and that way i can enjoy my visit to the full extent. I wouldn't feel isolated or neglected and i'll definitely try to make some friends there. Thank you.

If I'm going to visit another country I'm going to learn few words and phrases. I think I'm going to bring translation dictionary so that I'm not be lost or I can talk to locals there. English is a international language and I think as long as you know how to speak English it is not difficult for you to be in another country.

I'd probably make sure that I had with me someone who knows how to speak their language. And maybe bring with me a pocket dictionary for guidance. And I think English is a native language to most countries.

I feel happy when I travel to another country because I can enjoy seeing the sights. There are so many different countries that I wish to visit. The more countries I get to go to the happier I become. Even when I have [problems with language barriers I get on fine. In Bulgaria I had quite a misunderstanding. It was so challenging to book a train ticket to Romania. Then I came across a wonderful little health food shop. I try to learn a few phrases in the local language and I always respect the local people.
