With all the recalls that happen, faulty products, lead getting into things it shouldn't - how do you make sure that you have the best baby products available for your little one? I'm always so worried about these things but I just picked up the 2010 edition of the Consumer Reports Best Baby Products book for myself and just wondered if any other parents have this book or are thinking about it? PS: I happen to know that you could win a copy of this book (luckycanuck.blogspot.com). I dunno, what do you parents out there think?

i do a lot of research before i buy any baby product. on top of doing research i always sign up for any recall mail list that the stores/companies offer. it is hard these days to know you are buying a safe product since the safety testing isn't that intense. although, they are working on getting this changed. research is all you can do to make an informed decision.

Research is very important, as well as looking beyond the company websites. A good company name on the product can be helpful, but remember the bigger the company the easier it is for them to look good. Common sense is also important. Safety testing tends to be funded by manufacturers and things that seem safe today, may not be tomorrow. My oldest son is seven years old and he used plastic bottles when given a bottle, because glass bottles when not popular due to the risk of breakage. My youngest son who is two months old gets a glass bottle when he gets one, because plastic bottles are now questionable due to chemical breakdown. Above all it is the parents' vigilance that makes a product safe. It was not that long ago that car seats were not used.
