Discussions With No Best Response

I'm just thinking if discussions with no best response or "undecided discussions" be put to vote for other users to select the best response. Sometimes there are responses which both have the same weight and content and the discussion starter can't decide which one to consider as the best response. Why not put them to vote and only one vote per user. I wonder what the admin will think of this. I'm just wondering... What is your comment or opinion about this? Any other similar ideas?

Hello, Levite. I think this would be a logistical nightmare, which would need a major software upgrade and, unless people had a financial reward for voting a BR, I can't see that very many would trawl through old discussions rereading responses. Additionally, I think the BR should be chosen by the discussion originator, as they are the only ones who know the sort of response they were hoping for, and whether they actually got it.
Some people don't award BRs because they think people will no longer respond to their discussions if they don't have a chance of a BR. Personally, if a discussion interests me, I'll respond anyway, whether or not the BR has been awarded.

Hi Sandra, I participated in Yahoo Answers before mylot and if there were discussions or questions wherein the discussion starter failed to select the best answer in a given time, the undecided question is put into voting for others to choose the best responder. I think you're right, this might require a major software upgrade and might cause some problems if done now. I'm just wondering eh...

hello levite,
that would consider another upgrade being added or tool to changed the recent program on how the best response is choose.definitely, the admin will not approve of that since they tin kit's the complete discretion of the users on how to select their best response from the users themselves. definitely they will ignore it.

Hi letran. Perhaps you're right, the admin would just ignore it. I recall when I participated before in Yahoo Answers they have this option to put to vote those undecided questions when the discussion starter failed to select the best answer in a given time.

levite this has been discussed before and my answer is still the same, no as we made the discussions so we should be the ones to decide and give the best response, after all this is our work. anyway mylot admins did not like the idea and neither do I. its not the business of other mylotters who may be biased to pick the best response for me on my own discussions. I see with this there would be so unfair biases here and some would pick only their friends. no I dislike the idea very much.

Sorry, I didn't know it's been discussed before. Yeah, biases might be the drawback using this system of voting by mylot members. As I can also see in Yahoo Answers, even one vote can make one responder be the best answerer though his answer is not really the best.

Yes I always resolve every discussion, I like to ensure there is never more than 3 pages at one time. I find no problem with choosing the best response as remember one which stands out to me more than the others, and then if another one comes in that stands out more I have that in mind instead. That way when I go back in to give the best response I pretty much remember which one it was. Sometimes its a bit of a tie but I just follow my instincts.
I don't see anything wrong with my idea though, if some people habitually never resolve their own discussions but make lots then I think that is bad manners.

Agree with you there, Thea. I do leave some of my discussions to run for a while, but I always resolve them in the end. As you say, it's bad manners not to award a BR, especially if you have lots of responses.

Yeah, it would be good! I also think discussion, in which there is best response from a long time, other users should have the right to give it.

though i have joined mylot more than one year but i still have no idea about how to choose he best response of my started threads and if we vote thumbup for someone's response that will be helpful to their earning or not? will the best response be rewarded also?

As far as I know, there are no "voting thumb up" here on mylot but only positive and negative ratings given to responders by other users to either increase or decrease his/her ratings here. Higher ratings increase your reputation here and can add to your earnings. I don't know about the best reponse if it adds to your earnings too.

I don't really like that idea, as I don't think it would go down with the admin, as not giving best response, is only because the one that started the discussion, is looking for that special asnwer, and hadn't received it yet. I do agree that sometimes it is hard to pick just one. I think it would be nice if we could pick more than one best response. I have some discussions out there that I haven't given the best response to as of yet. I do intend to though. They are several months old, and I just haven't got around to it yet. Baiscally, giving best response, is just an ego booster anyway, for the one giving the best response and the one getting it. Good luck to you and happy mylotting.

Sometimes it's hard to select the best response specially if there are more than one whom I think might get the best. I , too, have some discussions months old which I am yet to give the best response but it helps to boost his/her confidence to participate more in the discussions.

Hello levite this is checkmail and think that it won't be fair to select an best response to others discussions.Even if we like any body's response to others discussions we could rate it positive. Its the whole and sole right of the creator to choose an best response from the avail responses, as he is the one who generated it with his own efforts.Even if we put on voting from all users think that the creator of the post still have the right to select an best response.Yeah it may seem anti-democracy but its about an discussions, not that type of stuff. The best is what is going on presently in mylot.Happy mylotting.

Um, I think that as the original poster is the person who has more interest in knowing what others think about the question that he or she posted, the priviledge of choosing or not a best response should be only for this person. Sometimes we can't just seem to find a response that will be good enough for us, and then I don't see wrong just not to choose one.

Yeah, sometimes there are no responses which we think really hit the point and we just could not give the best reponse to just anyone. But choosing the best reponse will boost the responder's confidence to participate more on mylot and also make him comfortable answering to discussions.
