Have you ever processed walnuts before?

I remember the walnut tree and how the walnuts would fall and we kids would all go out and pick them up, bring them in and help my grandmother cull them. You take this horrid outer portion off and then I don't remember what all grandmother did with them after that. She used them in cooking. Nice black walnuts and cookies and cakes and this marvelous jam she made. Did you do this as a child? If not, what wonderful thing like this do you remember from your childhood?

I haven't prcesseed walnuts before. I do remember having a chestnut tree in the back yard though. Those nasty little burrs were rough on little feet..lol..I liked the chestnuts though.

The chestnut is hidden inside these huge brown burrs that look like porcipines rolled up in a ball. When you pry the burr open there is a shiney brown nut..lol.

Not walnut, apricots, I hate those things and we had to mow around the trees and there was this one limb that hung just low enough that you would hit your head on it every time. I don't miss those days at all.
