Since New Year is approaching, aside from Christmas, sounds of fireworks can already be heard in our neighborhood as this early moment. It ranges from baby rocket, Judas belt, firecrackers (various kinds), fountain, etc. There were many victims of these firecrackers in the past like people with lost fingers due to mishandling of these stuffs. A marketplace selling fireworks exploded. In another year, a factory of firecrackers exploded in the province of Bulacan. They have no safety precautions. Last year I was walking along the streets when someone just threw a firecracker on the road close to me and loud explosion followed. What do think of this, do we really need fireworks to welcome New Year?

For me, fireworks are not really necessary to celebrate a happy new year. But, I guess, it can add up to the beauty of the celebration. Making noises during that day is really nice because it awakens our spirit. Unfortunately, firework of any kinds were already banned here in our City. Our mayor promulgated a law that fireworks should be prohibited here in our city and whoever disobeys that will be given a punishment. It was banned simply because our mayor is just protecting the people here in our city. he doesn't want to hear a lot of accidents happening in new year. I almost forgot the last time I heard and saw fireworks display here but I still enjoy every new year even without fireworks. Family gatherings and other enjoyable activities will already be enough to celebrate new year.

Hi pentagan, what city is that you're mentioning? We're both from the Philippines. Truly family gatherings and reunion are sufficient to celebrate and enjoy the New Year even if without fireworks, they are just like garnishing like those in foods.

Hi magtibaygom. Advance happy birthday to you. Just be careful using them since accidents happen anytime and we never know when. My sister was just one of the victim then.

I'm from the Philippines also. New Year's Eve is my birthday. I prefer to have fireworks. It's more fun. Without fireworks, you can feel something is lacking. So to make New Year's Eve complete, have fireworks. Better.

I think New Year is not about celebration, New Year is not about fame, New Year is not about spend more money, New Year is not about fireworks, New Year is about togetherness with each other.

I believe the purpose of fireworks for the Chinese during New Years eve is to drive away the spirits from entering the new year. Others spend money for fireworks because its their way of celebrating the new year - with a bang! If you're not into this kind of thinking then we don't need fireworks for new year. We (or some) probably just got accustomed to seeing / hearing fireworks during new years eve.

I guess it's not a 'need' to use fireworks, it's just that its been a part of New Year. I can't imagine New year without fireworks exploding almost all day. People just need to be disciplined so that no accidents would occur.

Hello anke. Yes there are really undisciplined people using fireworks and they could sometimes hurt another person walking in the streets. Anyway the authorities should take more stringent measures to avoid accidents.

Fireworks is too expensive. I would not spent money to buy fireworks but i like to see fireworks. Hahahaha. I would rather spend on expensive dinner or hanging around with family and friends which is more fun for me. I will attend my friend's wedding during new year. Congratulations to my friend.

i think that there is not necessary to need fireworks for new year, actually fireworks safety become our attention every year, but this affairs still happen every year.although we always advocate safety problem and take some action to prevent this affair happen, but it could not be efficient,so i think that government should prohibit the fireworks, especially during the new year.

Nope levite, as for me, it's no longer needed since not only i hate smoke and my mom has asthma that she didn't like it being out side every new year. of course, with the help of the government being strict about fire works in new year, the explosions are getting lesser and lesser over time. besides, what's worth being using one if you would loose your body parts

It's not something that we need but it will be something that will be used. Some people get enjoyment out of seeing fireworks and that's fine. To me, they're just loud, obnoxious, and can be quite dangerous if an inept person is using them. There are other ways to welcome the New Year I think. They are in fact technically illegal to shoot off when I live, but its a law that no one seems to follow or enforce.

Here in the Uniated states Fireworks for new years aren't as common as for the fourth of July. However, the states have more procosions then other countries do. In a lot of places fireworks are banned which makes me wonder why people bother to sell them if they are banned just about everywhere. However, People will be people and do it anyway. Fireworks if done and used properlly can be great fun. Though you should really be asking yourself about how responsible or sober said people are. That seems to be more the problem, not the product itself.

Yes, the people who use the product are responsible for their actions, though authorities are taking some stringent measures, there are still some people who are stubborn and just do it for their own enjoyment, regardless of other people's safety.

For me, yes. Its because, imagine new year without fire works................................................................how quiet. Fire works almost serves as the sign of new year. But we really can't deny the fact that it is expensive and dangerous to use.....

In older days those things happened and started. But as matured global citizen no we must understand the current climate situation. Our Globe is really warming up and up. These fireworks will defiantly increase the pollution (Air + Noise). So as initiative of contribution in saving our globe. I think we have to learn leave without certain thing like Fireworks, plastic etc, rather than we are forced to live miserable life. Where the polluting agents will control our life.

Hmm, you have a wider and global perspective when it comes to the subject. Truly, fireworks can really cause air and noise pollution as you have said. Global warming is on the rise, we should really think globally nowadays.
