Cricket frighting---Do you like it or have you ever had cricket fighting?

cricket fighting - Cricket fighting in China dates back to the Tang Dynasty.

In southern China, particularly around Macau, cricket fighting had been a popular pastime. Many famous hotels around Macau held cricket fights where bets up to thousands of patacas would be waged on a single fight. Prized crickets became famous and actual funeral services would be held for them.

In Beijing, the Association for Cricket Fighting still organizes cricket fighting events and championships.

Though it went on year round, the height of cricket fighting was between the summer solstice and autumn equinox. Banners and flags would be given out to the owners of cricket champions.

While it is illegal in China to gamble on cricket fights, the fights themselves are legal and occur in most big cities in China. Crickets are sold openly in street markets. Chinese Police attempt to control illegal gambling by arresting the gamblers

Cricket fighting was very popular in my hometown in the seventies when the local farmers used to catch and sell them in the city. I was crazy about them and used to buy some with the little money I got from my parents. That was a time when I was small without toys to play with. Then cricket fighting was something that was very attractive to me during the summers. But ever since the eighties, no more crickets have ever been seen to be on sale in the market. I still miss it and wish to enjoy cricket fighting once more, but without any luck. This morning (December 21st, 2009) I happened to see a photo of cricket fighting and it reminds me of my happy childhood enjoying cricket fighting. I am wondering whether you have heard about cricket fighting or whether you enjoy it. It is a lot of fun.

The first time i heard and saw cricket fighting is from my grandfather, during my childhood time. My grandfather is very fond of this cricket fighting that he will keep a pair of crickets in a small box and enjoy watching them fighting. Although i don't really enjoy watching those cricket fighting but at least i can see it makes my grandfather feels more entertain watching cricket fighting, rather than watching television. Anyway, it had been more than 20 years, i didn't saw any cricket in my area.

You are welcome, friend. By the way, the crickets appear in the summer and are gone in late autumn. So that is the life span of theirs. I love to hear their sound, good to hear.

I know that crickets are just insects but why do you except that they can be taken from their natural environment and forces into an unnatural act for your entertainment. Crickets have moms and dads and friends and sure they have to fight for love but that is a nature intended, not man. Many of us feel that all things on earth are here for our use and pleasure, just look around you and you will see what a mess that type of thinking has cause of our planet. Soarry about going on and on, but the road to ruin starts with one step at a time. Have a good Holiday.
